I sold my x back in September to raise some ��
Just had a lucky bid on another on ebay but have re read the listing and seen its an R !

What are the main differences between the two
The one I got is a 2008 model with 8000 miles

Congrats on the purchase :D
TKechnically the bikes are the same, same frame, engine, seat, weight, tank, etc. I have personally never ridden an X but the R is very nice and comfortable in town as well as on the motorway. I presume the x is more stable in high speeds if you are in that type of thing.

the X has a smaller front wheel 17' .... R has a 21"
bigger disc rotor... (looks bigger , maybe it's just that the wheel is smaller)
&
Diffrent forks with the axle more inline with the fork centre line
giving less rake & trail "closer to a road bike rake/trail"
The R has norrower rims....

Picked it up today, first bit of off road riding I have done in a long time as the guy lives up a dirt track, bit scary on a new bike with road tyres!

Next challenge was finding a petrol station as the light was on and off.

I nursed it home as it seems a bit iffy on the wet roads and the cold didnt help
All sorted now though and tucked up in the shed for the time being.

Great feeling to own an xt again :)

Just to ease your mind: If the fuel light was going on and off then you have only just hit your 5 litre reserve and so still have a good 85 km or more left in the tank. Don't need to panic when the fuel light comes on as it's a big reserve!
