Fuel gauge on xt 660 r

Hi guys it sucks there is no fuel gauge on xt 660 r how do you no how much fuel you have in tank

Wait till the light comes on, :)

How many miles when light comes on guys

250km to res then the fuel light comes on & the fuel
trip meter comes up... then another 100km is left..
around 350km all up from the standard 15L tank...

i get 100 miles to fuel light comes on (riding hard) and then i fill up ... wouldn't know about riding economical .... never done it lol

I really wouldn't worry about not having a fuel gauge. They fit them on the Tenere and they're next to useless (like almost all bike fuel gauges); they only give you a very approximate idea of fuel level... like whether it's full or empty! So you might as well just have a warning light. ;)

No matter what I've ridden, I've always relied on the age old technique of working from the odometer reading. This method has never let me down in the last thirty years.

Gee Petenz mate ... you're obviously a tad less aggressive on the Jesus stick that what I am ... I average about 18 ~ 20 kms/litre so that's around 300kms per tank.

Yes a bit less fanging it around town and a bit better cruising off-road !!!

But it's a damn pity they can't make a reliable and accurate (yet affordable) fuel gauge system on motorcycles. I'd have to say that fuel management is one damn important consideration while adventure riding. Especially so across the Oz Outback where it's often quite a little ride between fuel sources and the consequences of getting it wrong are more than a little serious. It would be really nice to have a better idea of what's going on well before the red light blinks :angry8:

Yes a couple of extra litres in the standard tank would be wonderful :yahoo:

As said, fuel gauges on bikes aren't really up to much. i just re set the trip meter when i fill up and know when 130 looms i can expect to see the fuel light some time soon.

Does anyone else stuff around with the fuel filler trying to dribble that last 1.2 litres of fuel in the top of the tank. That baffle thing just under the filler hole is a real pain.
Is there a fix?
