Still surging

Hi guys,
I'm new to the XT660. (See my newbie post).
Only got the bike on Monday and looking for a bit of advice.
Bike has MTC cans and a Nitro X mod (already fitted) and not sure if anything else has been done.

I have read about fuelling mods at the dash and the Kev fuel mod. Am I right in think the Nitro X is supposed to do the same thing?

Bike still surges a bit, not badly but definitely noticeable and I have read "Barely noticeable" in many threads re Kev's mod.

Should I add the Kev mod or replace the Nitro X with it or do dash fuelling mods? I hope to pull the bike apart over the weekend and see if anything else has been done like airbox mods, snorkel removal, aftermarket air filter, etc.

Fuel economy, allbeit commuting 35 miles into central London, seems to be around 45 MPG which seems a bit disappointing (Although I am addicted to the sound from the MTC's so that probably isn't helping right now!!!)

Any advice would be great.

Thanks
Brian

More info

Should have mentioned the Nitro X mod is the fuel commander and the dip switches are set to 1 - 3 off and 4 on. I believe this is 100% performance.

HI Brian,

The Kev mod works very well, which year is your bike?

I'd been chasing a bad fueling problem on my bike for some time now and i'm pretty confident most of my problem was down the bad chain and sprocket. as i found when there was fresh lube on it it behaved, but once that had washed off in winter the surging soon returned.

Its a 2009 Xtx. During tomorrows maintenance session I will be cleaning and lubing the chain. Had heard about this before. With the Kev fuelling Mod, I presume I remove the Nitro X fuel commander.

i've not used the nitro before so please double check, from what i'm aware they work in the same manner but the nitro uses presets and the Kev mod is completely variable so will give you a more accurate adjustment.

Also while your there take a look at your front sprocket. as it's hidden away it's a bit out of sight out of mind.

Trouble with the Nitro-X is so few have been fitted to XT660s that we don't really know what settings are best for our bikes. On the other hand, there is a wealth of knowledge about the Kev mod on XT660.com, not just from Kev, but from hundreds of contented users. Not only that, Kev has tested his mod(s) on the dyno, so the settings recommended in his instructions are tried and tested and the results proven.

Yep. Indeed you do.

As Simon has mentioned already, have a look at the link to surging fixes in his last post.

Hi Brian

I fitted the Kev mod to my 2007 XTX today and can honestly say this was the best decision iv'e made. No more bucking bronco for me it's a totally different bike!
