Keys Please
Hi all , Im new here and new to owning an Xt660x im looking to get a couple of keys cut but my local locksmith cant do it where do i start looking in Sydney ? also as a side note im having trouble getting the rego papers from the previous owner , is this going to be a problem when i go to the rta ? (i have a written reciept)

Hi 24auhr
When you buy a second hand vehicle the owner and yourself are supposed to fill out the back of the rego papers. Part of the paper is sent to the RMS(old RTA) by the owner and the purchaser takes the remainder to the RMS. Not sure what happens if you don't have it. Just go to or phone the RMS, they'll sort it out. Your receipt will come in handy. Good luck |
Thanks Schnidely ,i hope it dosnt turn sour with he and i anyways , anyone know where i can get a set of keys ?
|
You will need the RED key to code in the newly cut Yamaha OEM Black key, do you have the RED key.
|
Nope , no red key , just a black one is it possible to get a whole new barrel and tank cover ? Iv just found a set on ebay , ignition barrel - fuel cap and keys for about 90$ including shipping but they are for a 125 , they should still be ok though right ?

If you have no red key you will need the matching engine ECU as well.
Or contact this EBayer: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/killeradam...56212cottamave |

Hi,
Just a bit of info, my bike only came with a black key. I took that key to my local misterminit shop (key cutting, shoe repair type place). The lady put the key into a niffy little code reader box, read the code no worries. She had to order in a key and chip as a suitable replacement shaped key. I picked up the new key the following week - works no worries - easy. All done for $150. So no red key required, there is a work around if you're in the doodoo. Before I did the above I called Yamaha, big drama for them, whole new locking system required, thousands of $$$$$$$. Cheers |
I had a spare key cut from a local locksmith (in the UK) and they easily cut and programmed a universal replacement key (which works) by using the same kind of mystery black box. Which copied the code from original black key to the new universal one - 35 GBP, five minutes work for them.
However, they couldn't override and program a blank Yamaha OE black key - I had to use the red key for that. Which worked out at 41.50 with the blank and cutting. I managed to lose one of the original black keys and wanted a proper set of one red and two blacks. I also had a generic non-Yamaha copy made to take on trips with me as a spare. The red key is really important - and will affect the resale value (and/or ease of selling) if it's missing. It also means without it you can't re-program the remaining keys differently if you were to lose one - so the lost key can't be used to start the bike. |
Well now , thats extremely good news GCD and Sweller thankyou very much and happy new year all
