Hi All from Liverpool
Hi,
I am new to the forum as I stumbled across it looking for my next toy, i was searching for a xt660 and this forum popped up so thought id ask you experienced folk a few question before i become one of the xt community! I have today sold my heavy lump of a 2008 BMW R1200GS to go for something lighter, agile, easier to manoeuvre etc etc.... well in other words an XT660X. what can people tell me about them? I have my eyes on an orange 2006 plate one at the minute. Is there anything i should be looking for before i hand over my hard earned cash? common faults? niggles? etc? The orange one i have my eyes on for some reason has a 'MPH' sticker on the digital dash! Does this make it an import? faulty? why would this be there? It has done only 7000 miles but no service history, it has been looked after DIY style..... is this a problem? thank you in advance for your comments and/ or help, K666rlo |
:hello: and :welcome: to :660:
The MPH sticker is a mystery, have you asked the owner, what does the clock read Km/h or MPH?? |
don't know to be honest, i have just text the current owner, waiting on a reply. are the orange xtx uk spec? did they sell them in the uk as standard?

Look if it is an imported one from Europe the worst you are going to have to do is to adjust your eyes on the mph on the speedo rather than the Km/h, no big deal, if the price is right, and it is a very clean bike, I wouldn't worry too much, but if it was me buying it, I would want to see the log book to make sure that it is marked as an import and fully legal to be ridden in UK. |
i have had a reply when i asked if it was an import, he replied by saying in the special notes part of the v5c it just says 'declared new at first registration'.
I'm sure every log book says this doesn't it? where would it say on the log book if it was an import? |

So he's saying it was registered in UK from new, so the sticker on the speedo might be nothing of importance. Do you have the possibility to view the bike? I would ask more questions at close inspection. Good luck. |
Under the MPH sticker it says kmh so I'm guessing the speedo must have been calibrated to mph (if this can be done?)
Should a non import be showing mph as standard? I'm meant to be buying this on Monday but dunno what to do? It does seem cheap though.... It's a 2006 with 7000 miles, mint condition in orange, no service history but apparently been serviced regularly. Aftermarket cans and hand guards. Also taxed and tested. What do you think guys? |
If I remember rightly, and can someone from Europe please back me up, a UK issued XTX / XTR will by default show MPH and will also have the option to display Km/h, whereas a European XTX/XTR shows Km/h by default but has no optional display for MPH.
I haven't got my XT anymore so I can't double check but someone please check on their bikes to confirm both in UK and Europe. Thanks. As for you having to go and possibly buy the bike on Monday, speak clearly to the owner and ask him to explain what's the deal with the speedo. |
When I asked the question about the mph sticker he said he doesn't know why its like that and it was like that when he bought it. said its never caused him any issues so never bothered to look into it.
