New 660z

Hi All,

Decided to upgrade from my 2 DRZ's of 12 years. Bought a 2010 660Z with 5K on the clock hopefully for bit UK and European touring etc.
Love the bike , way more comfy than the DRZ and feels stable and easy to ride. I also really notice the difference the screen makes but it does buffet a bit above 65/70.
Its came with twin Akrapovics and a K&N filter, and pops and bangs a bit on the overrun. I don't mind this but wonder if any setting changes should have been made to fueling? or does the injection system sort itself out?
I hope its not running lean and doing damage etc. Its my first fuel injected bike so have a bit to learn.

Other bikes in the shed : 2001 Road DRZ, 2000 Off Road DRZ, a sad much raced Gasgas 250 and a Bultaco Sherpa 325 in rebuild.

hope to wade through all forums and mods and contribute where I can.

DRZDave

You are in the right place, lots of good information here and plenty of mods to make your Z sing.

A well documented issue. There are all manner solutions out there too, ranging from bizarre DIY methods to off-the-shelf accessories. What works for you is down to personal preference, how tall you are, the kind of helmet you wear, how you ride etc. Search for "buffeting" and you'll get plenty of ideas...

The popping is the AIS emission control doing its job (passing air into the exhaust ports just after the valves to detonate any excess fuel in the exhaust). With cans and a K&N it isn't entirely necessary to alter the fuelling, it'll be fine, the ECU will sort it out to a degree. However, bear in mind all XTs run lean with stock fuelling, and even in standard trim benefit from more fuel. Adding a Power Commander or Kev mod, together with an O2 controller/optimizer can only help and you will reap rewards in terms of smoothness, tractability and power.

Thanks for the help, Ive found a bit more about it on the forum.
I'll leave it for a few weeks and just ride it.
Then I should notice a difference with few Kev mods.
