Another option for a front road wheel on your XT660R
Found another option if you want a road wheel for the front of the XT660R.
It's from the Yamaha DT125X 2004 model onwards from Europe. The little DT has apparently been Europe's biggest selling learner bike for some 20 odd years, so there's plenty of them and they're cheap, with good quality Excel Takasago rims, just like the XT660X. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-I...o/IMAG0053.jpg Only difference is a smaller external diameter bearing on the non disk side, as the hub has been machined down to accommodate the DT speedo drive. Internal diameters are the same for the the XT and the DT. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-R...o/IMAG0055.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0...o/IMAG0057.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Z...o/IMAG0067.jpg Internal bearing diameters are the same on the DT and XT, so Mr Yamaha just uses a spacer that sits inside the bearing to house the smaller DT axle. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-5...o/IMAG0062.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-f...o/IMAG0060.jpg And you just have to install the XT660R main spacer or get another one like I did as the XT660R axle is bigger than the DT https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-I...o/IMAG0051.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-B...o/IMAG0052.jpg Easy fit https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-w...o/IMAG0063.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-C...o/IMAG0064.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-i...o/IMAG0065.jpg I started mucking around with getting the rear DT125X wheel to fit, which is doable, but it doesn't have a cush drive and it would be a lot of frigging around with building new spacers, buying new rear disk, etc, etc.....and so I couldn't be ****ed. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-o...6+08.33.59.jpg So I stumbled across an XT660X rear wheel on fleabay Europe and so...it's on its way. So now I've got dirt wheels and road wheels...sweet. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0...o/%2524_58.JPG I think my Blood is Blue https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-V...o/IMAG0069.jpg Cheers Robo |
Impressive line up there Robo. I'd be careful lining up the bikes like that. I had four lined up in my shed and the end one fell, in turn knocking them all like domino's. Yeh you gotta be unlucky which I happened to be on that day.
