New to this XT Malarkey...

Hi All,

I'm Craig from Bonny Scotland!

Buying a 2005 XT660X tomorrow - currently on a GSXR750 and looking forward to having some fun.

The one I'm buying has rusty spokes that I'm gonna clean up and have re painted...is this common and something I should worry about??

Look forward to meeting some of you in the near future

Craig

Thanks for that - never heard of Spoke covers so that's a new one to me and well worth looking at!

What are the normal upgrades for a 660 X???

Thanks for the welcome Gents, much appreciated.

After collecting the bike today and riding it the 100 miles home I have to say - why did no one ever tell me they were so much fun!!!???

I rode it home over the Lecht and then Glenshee, which, for anyone that knows the road are two cracking roads. There's a real bumpy bit after Glenshee on the way home that has had the GSX-R upset a load of times and I don't really enjoy it, however, on the XT it was just a complete and utter blast, so much fun!!

So, the bike was a private sale. No history. It's a 2005 with 13500 on the clock, what do I need to be checking and looking out for?

I did notice the surging which was real bad at lower constant throttle speeds - am I right in thinking you guys have sussed a cure for it??

I am now a convert...!!

Several parts to the surgiung. KeV fuel mod is your first step or power commander etc.

Plenty of mods you can do to reduce the surging, a lot of which are either free to do, or cheap and easy. Here's some reading homework for you... ;)
