Leak at coolant tank
 

Something rather disturbing today as I took apart the right plastic protection. As I removed the one attached to the coolant tank coolant started dripping on the ground. Looks like the bottom screw was long enough to make a hole in the tank.

Looking for advice:
- What length of screw is supposed to be fitted?
- Any ideas on how to repair that hole?

Right now it seems if I place the screw back the leak stops, at least enough to keep riding.

I had the same thing.

It wasn't the screw being too long rather an overtightening issue which pulled the bolt (that's embedded in the tank itself) out a little bit. I did a temp fix by using a red hot blade and cutting a groove around the outside of the bolt and using lots of silicone sealant.

Ultimately it's a replacement, luckily for me done under warranty.

Dealer said "overtightened at factory". Same deal with the crash panels that had hair line cracks through the bolt holes.

i think (but not 100%) the screws of the cover are differing lengths and if you put the longer one in that hole it can wear through in time.

Of the three screws that hold the RH grey cover on, the one at the front/top (that fixes it to the radiator shroud) is longer than the two that bolt into the expansion tank. So, if you should happen mix up the three screws, it is quite possible that the longer one could find it's way into (literally) the expansion tank!
