Ozzz
Hi XT fans. 20 yrs ago I had an XT600 (89). Before I got off my L's I was rear ended, I ended up a bit broken but bye bye XT.. : (
Anyhow I'm back !! Fast forward and welcome XT660X (09). Thanks for the great forum and bucket load of info. In fact there is so much I'm sure i'd be hesitant to ask questions, it's gotta be there somewhere right- why does the gear leaver tonk back down onto my toe a few seconds after upshift.. is that a new innovation? :icon_study: haha.. Anyhow, G'day from another down under-er!! |
Welcome back to the XT family, thanks for coming a supporter straight away.:blob3:
I would start your reading here. |
Welcome aboard. I wish you better luck with this XT! I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I'm liking my R more than I expected to. Addictive wee beasties.

A bit of progress, sorry, not the best images but thought these couple of mini mods might give others ideas. I cut off the bent brake pedal head and replaced with a swivel alloy head (c/sunk bolt through from back of brake lever /shaft). I also found I needed to make a bracket to hold a longer clutch cable for raised bars.
I'm a bit baffled trying to find what's missing, what the two holes at the back of the throttle body should hold in that last pic?? Jobs so far: BB skidplate / BB Rear rack / Magura fat bars, risers, Rallie Guards / DNA 1&2 And Kev mods (ais blocked)/ SW Centre Stand / Double LED indicators / GEL Battery / 12V/5V Outlet / Various Protection bits / Pirelli MT60 / Kreiga Tank Bag U5... |
:hello: and :welcome: to :660:

Thanks Cap'n and thanks guys for the welcome. Great forum you all have here!
|
Ozzz which side of the bike is that (as you sit on the bike) and I can go and look at mine???

Iv'e found a few loose screws here and there. |
I don't think you've got anything missing! My Z has got the same two empty threaded holes and AFAIK so does the R and X. No idea what they're for though...

Thanks Pleiades

Thanks Keith.
Here's a pic of the Kreiga U5 Tank bag and cover. Also of the little handguard LED indicators. And rear rack.. yep more indicators under there : ) (brake light LED to come- no excuse for not seeing me this time..) + Added Kev's spacers and Puig screen I'll try my luck and ask if anyone can help with these OTR mirrors. Long way to send back, I like them but the glass is slightly loose and viabrates annoyingly. No screws at all.. how do you get into them?, maybe I can add some silcon or something inside? |

I'm guessing here, not seen those mirrors in the flesh, but you'd assume the glass was fitted and then they were glued/bonded together? You could try levering them apart but that might well end in disaster! ;) Your silicone idea may be a good bet? You could try drilling two discrete holes in the back: one to get the silicone in and one to let the air out. If you use black silicone, then the holes can be plugged with it and you won't know they are there. Added bonus of filling the backs is you'll have added some extra weight which may cut down mirror vibration? |
Good thinking. The mirror could be glued to a 'grid' of plastic inside the mirror head but at least silicone through a hole will fill a section.
Did a 200 k loop to Cradle Mt from the coast today (for anyone who knows, this must be one of the nicest road/loop rides in our country). In all honesty, i'm still not there yet wih this bike. Iv'e not ridden a road bike more than a few K's but grew up with enduro and dirt bikes and on road. This thing far and away handles much sharper than I ever remember from the XT600 on road, through corners. With the mods its got enough power and the low end in spades.. still some fuel related surge though and it never feels comfortable in the gearing (for these hills). I have cush rubbers to fit.. Maybe a sprocket change.. The vibes were worse than OEM when I swapped to the fat bars, then the handguards gave less vibe than OEM.... so better but I never remember vibes being an issue like this.. torque wrench before next ride, some of the vibe seems to be coming from very low ie. foot vibes.. Could do with a set of offset risers too, even with 20mm up it's at a point between straight back and stooped (for me). I'm soundin like a whinger but this could otherwise be Perfect :smilies0347: |
Ozz man! You have exceeded the Newbie Welcome with bike issues, please feel free to venture to the sub forum proper where you will find appropriate sections and there's plenty of them for every issue you might have.
The Newbie Reception Lounge is just for people to introduce themselves to the forum, once that is done, your stabilizer wheels are off and you will have to move on into the deep of the forum. Good sport! :D :computer: |
