standard v springs v shock?
Debating a few mods tomorrow.
1. Hyperpro springs front, 15w oil (with KeV spacers?) And Hyperpro rear spring. 200 2. Wilbers or Hyperpro shock, plus springs/oil in front. 450 3. Online shock plus springs and oil 550 What do you think guys? |
Cash is king. I do however have nothing to contribute regarding the difference between Wilbers and hlins setup.
Went for hlins springs in front, and saved the rear for later. The limited progressive ability of the standard front fork might encourage selecting progressive front springs. I didn't bother, as im rather light and Wilbers progressive front springs (more or less same as Hyperpro) wasn't recommended by Off The Road in Germany. |
What a question and the reason I say I run two bikes with Ohlins and another with Wilbers the mistake most folks make when comparing is do it like for like ie with separate compression/rebound/remote preload ajust or just make sure they are all the same spec
So having to admit that I have an addiction for aftermarket suspension I actually rather like the stock stuff on the XT my rear shock is very stiff(I'm 12st) which I actually like, the front I guess could be a little more progress and feels rather crude but at the same time I don't want squidgy it's not a motocrosser,it has a tendency to jump around a fair bit when pushing on in a Welsh country lane which adds to the fun as opposed to having a front and rear moving too much. As for the 3 shocks you mentioned assuming they are all the same spec it would take a brave man to split them and I'd be more inclined to go for the one that is closer to home in case you need some after sales service/help,and of course when ordering make sure they supply a shock/spring for your weight. |
Well its either mods or a new track tool!
|
No good for track days.:bike:

I've ordered the Hyperpro spring kit front and rear from Calsport.
:) |
So, the final part of the questions on this debate is...
"Do i leave in the Kevs spacers or remove them with new springs and 15W oil" ? |

thank you.... and the final final question... Should the springs both front an rear have the progressive bit at the top or bottom ? or is that such a silly question as it doesn't actually matter in the slightest lol |

(the rear shock can't damp the standard spring let alone a stronger one...) |
So, I never ended up with these. Quick question though, I've got kev spacers in front, but noticed my rear is on setting 2 on preload. I'm 15st naked, should I be adding more preloaded? I only do solo riding.

you need softer/harder springs or the pre-load adusted one way or the other... try setting the sags front and rear then everything will be come clear what way you need to go with the springs/pre-load.. It took me 2 rear & 3 front spring sets to get my XTR sitting right under my weight.. |
What figures for static and rider sag should I be hoping for on these ?
|
dirt bike...
30/35mm static 33% of travel rider sag road bike... 10/12mm static 33% of travel rider sag... My XTR is set at.. front.. 32mm static. 87mm rider.. (front has Showa USD forks..) rear.. 29mm static.. 78mm rider.. take the first base measurment with the wheel off the ground.. |
