The new 900 is coming but jury is out what engine will be it. Dealer told me a triple But I was trawling the net a found an insiders pic of a new parallel twin - which makes more sense to me.

But I agree that by convential thinking it is most likely a 2 cyl powerplant

I've been told today by my Yamaha dealer, that new xt660z will be based on mt-07 engine. He told me that they will have demo for their customers still this year. He didn't know much details yet, as Yamaha Poland did not disclose to them, but he especially existed about expected bike weight -below 200kg (full tank). We'll see, but that could be quite interesting bike..

That's what my money is on. I bet a 700 Tenere will show its face before a 900 does...
