If that's the case, then there is a strong likelihood that the connector on the regulator is causing the trouble to persist as it may well have also suffered some damage - corrosion and/or broken, burnt or melted conductors. If you think about it, the damage to the connector male pins is highly likely to be replicated on the equivalent female counterparts on the other side. The trouble is almost always withe the black (-ve) earth terminal. My suggestion keep your modified loom side connector (if you know its good), but swap your reg/rec unit for a known good one - borrow one of another bike, or jetski. It's possible that they've wired it up wrong, but its unlikely as it's simple enough to get it right. There's only a red (+ve), black (-ve), and it doesn't matter which order you connect the three white stator coil wires. |
Big thanks for the prompt response Pleiades.
Dealer just took bike away again along with lots of head scratching and apologies. One odd thing was that prior to this happening I was always able to get the diag/Fault codes up by pressing the two buttons simultaneously and turning the key on etc. Now it won't work, it just alters the clock....! Anyway I'll pass your info on to the mechanic who seems like a fairly open minded dude and see what he says when he's checked with the FI doodah as well. The reg that's on it's brand new by the way, they replaced it when it failed for all the reasons above on day 1. I'll let you know how they get on. Cheers |

You can't (shouldn't be able to) access the diagnostic mode on the XTZ through the dash, unlike on the X/R. You must plug a diagnostic tool into the connector under the seat. All you can achieve with the select/reset buttons (as you've discovered) is set the clock, change from km/h to mph and reset the trips. Anyhow, best of luck - hope you get it sorted... |
