My first supermoto
Hi there,
I have just join the xt660x forum to day, It is a bit funny been the newbie on the site lol. I had a big crash this year on my k6 GSXR750 and now I can't ride sport bikes any more just because of my injuries, and with me been a mega big bike fan and a massive lover of bikes from the age of 7 where I started motocross I did not want to give them up as its in my blood, I was thinking off going back to motocross again as I need to wear motocross boots my injuries hold me back, So I started looking at supermoto's as the vid's on youtube looked ace and the write ups I read all sounded like supermoto bikes where fun mega fun, and I was after a wr450 to make into a supermoto then I change my mind and was looking at the ktm 690 and 950, I was taking to a work mate who had a xt660x and I was asking him what they are like and I could see it in his face that he liked it very much and he told me to pop around to have a look at his xt660x hes bike has been used in all weathers he got it has a work bike so its been out in snow, ice, rain the lot, He said if you like it right price its yours the bike is on a 08 reg with 16088 miles one owner with S/H, I went home had a chat with the wife went back round had an other look a better look this time with me thinking I could be having this monster, Iv seen on Ebay they are going for 3000-3500 pound that year and miles, I ask my mate how much you thinking....... He said I am in no need to sell it however your a mate and been in a bad way and I want to help you out take it for 1000 pound I was like OK nice one buzzing, ok needs some TLC I got a lot off bike for the money and the TLC can be done over winter, So the story off this is I am now a happy xt660x supermoto owner let the fun start :happy7:. Thank you for taking your time to read this. :wav: |

Hi and welcome
The xt is a great all rounder, I can't for see selling mine, It's not a light weight race breed supermoto, A tad hefty, but weight can be stripped. And there's lots of engine mods, And with a top speed around a ton your licence is safer too ;) You've got it for a great price, leaving plenty for sticky tyres and mods Enjoy and ride safe |
:006: Welcome on board mate.
I'm curious to see what you got for a grand? Pictures... |
Thank you all for your replies back, I would get a photo on if I could however I don't no how to any help will be ace thank you, I am really looking forward to getting her out and :spanking[1]: some sport bikes hehehe :SPanikengun77: for a grand she is sound as a pound just needs some new parts added as some have rusted I am not worried about them just need to change them top off my head to make it mint like I like my bikes to be as we all do I will need to bang in about 350-450 pound and some hours in my garage which I enjoy.
I want to get and do. pipes loud ones, stage 1 n 2 air filters, with it been black I am thinking green monster sticker kit, I am unsure off what else I can do!?!, She needs new both wheel bearings, rear hub cush drive, rear wheel spindle I may as well do them when the wheels are out and are stripped, Engine bolts heads are rust change them, Best place to get parts from please. |
And a tail tidy :yahoo:

Yep you'll want a pipe/1+2 filters holes in the airbox and a PC,change of bars, take the mirrors off and clean the front end up,change the front brake to a radial,Yamaha make some good suff but they couldn't make a set of bars as long as they've got hole in their A.
BUT where it gets really complicated after a while and you have your XT running like it should you then start thinking well what about more HP and a lot less weight and look at a 690 SMC,I decided against it after much agonising of standing on the edge looking into that KTM black hole and thought 'You know what I'll stick with what I've got it's less hassle' Best of luck and Happy Christmas :icon_biggrin: |

I have uploaded a photo off my xtx and gsxr, I loved my K6 750 it was a mad bike made me do mad and silly things :smilielol:, wow that's good to hear mate, I hope i will enjoy mine it will be different to what I am use to from sport bikes I can't wait to get her out :blob6: |
Like you My GSXr1000K2 is in bike heaven. After hitting the Nissan Primera who did a u turn without warning at 100kph there was little left of it. But the bonus is there is also 1 less Nissan on the road. Being a fat kit I hit it at a force of 23G and actually bent it. Proud of that statistic.
I too have just bought an 08 XT. My son has a DRZ400 and I'm a huge Suzuki fan (thanks Mr Barry Sheene RIP) but find the 400 a bit to revvy especially as I'm used to the torque of my GSX1400 so the XT seemed a better idea? We'll find out soon eh? I'm new here too but I will still say welcome. |
That Nissan driver is a :tool: one less car off the road shame the driver is not, bet they was :sleepy2: or :boozer:, Was you ok mate? wow 23G respect and bend it hahaha good one, maybe our bikes are riding around together in bike heaven lol, A lot off people say the DRZ400 is under power and a bit heavy does your son like it? its it his first bike? I've never been on one,
Barry Sheene RIP super star, Wish Suzuki did a big supermoto like the Yamaha XT660X could be like Suzuki DX660S lol, GSX1400 big low down power nice bike, Yes we will both find out soon can't wait. yours is the blue one gold wheels looks mint I saw your photo off it, I really like that set up I have the black one got it at a mega deal where I could not say NO!!, I am going to get a set off pipes on it so people can hear the big single sound and do a few other things, Do you have any plans for yours? Thank you and say to you welcome to :660: |
Unfortunately the driver was a 65yr old man suffering with altzheimers. It took a month for him to know he had been involved in an R.T.I. (as the Police now call them) Kind of feel for him, I kind of lost my marbles for 3 weeks due to brain damage but slowly I've got most of it back. I struggle with some things and certain words escape me but I've learnt to just get on with it.
My son has yet to pass his next test so he's not allowed on the road with it but he's ridden it on private roads and loves it. The DRZ is a nice little bike to ride but it just feels "too small" for me that's when I saw the XT. Not too big but enough for me. I've splashed out on a set of Leo Vince cans although apparently there isn't too much to gain from changing the exhaust but like you I want everyone to hear the single rumble as I approach. Loud pipes save lives!! |
set of Leo Vince cans good going wow nice mate she will sound sexy :Worship_9TRHEA:
Bet your son can't wait to get it on the road and have a supermoto day out with his dad. I hope he passes his test soon good look to him all the best. I am 6'2 so the xt660x is fine for me both feet touch the floor quit easy lol. Tell me about it I last my way when I was 18 years old had a very big bike crash I died 2 time from that crash when I was in hospital I only no because my mum told me, I can't remember much from it or a few years after it lol, like you I just get one with it live for today best way, Loud pipes save lives "ace saying and so true" :rockwoot: |
