Barkbuster handguards + Tucano Urbano R319 muffs
Hi there,
after a bit googling and searching in the forum, seems like Tucano Urbano R319 are a good match for the Ten with the Yamaha handguards. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tucano-Urb...item20db254bdd I was wondering whether anyone is using them with the Barkbuster handguards for our Teneres? Do the muffs fit fine with the mirrors? Are the muffs big enough to go around the "plastic" of the handguard? Cheers |
They fit with my Yam handguards, I know the BarkBusters are a bit deeper.
The only slight problem I have is that the muff tends to touch the Full beam switch... only lightly but this is a bit annoying. The reason why I went for the R319 is so that I could decide where the bar end comes through the material. With the other version, the bar end hole is pre-designated. You'll want to fit bar ends through them, as when taking your hand in and out (especially clutch side) I find the 'muff' material can get a bit caught and move the whole bag around on the bar. I have excess material to go around the mirror and cabling, (easily sorted out with cable ties) so you should be OK in that respect. They do have a stiffening material on the front but I think it should accomodate the BarkBusters. These are popular items though, so even if you buy a set and find it doesn't fit, I'm sure you'll get a good re-sale value on eBay. |
I have Barkbusters and Tucano Urbano 323R muffs on my Ten and they work fine. Plenty of room for getting at switches, warm and dry.
I did however cut out the rubber plug on the inside that is supposed to go onto the bar end weight. They do not need any support there when used with the Barkbusters. On my second set now, the others delaminated after about four years of abuse! |

Do you have a picture of your setup? I dont get how the bar end can go through the muff material. Do you screw the bolt at the handle bar end through the buff? Cheers |

In this pic doesnt look like the muff will be able to go around the barkbuster handguard: http://scooter-wear.com/image/cache/...-1000x1000.jpg Barkbuster handguard on my Ten: http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/35/8wcb.jpg |
redbikejohn has the R319 version, same as me ( i know because he showed me his muff :pjrflash_Q2CCBE:)
The front part of all Tucano Mitts are made of a stiffening material which can be bent into shape around your guards. The pic that Steve posted shows it quite flat, but it can be moulded. ~On those R323 versions, you can see the holes for the bar end screws. I just made mine by punching a hole through using a punch and eyelet. Clearly, both R319 or R323 are winners. |

In terms of heated grips, is there a winner out there too? :eusa_whistle: Which one do you use on your Ten? THanks again for your help/patience :toothy9: |
Yes I think not having them fixed is better (for me) as they move forward when you turn the bars full lock and therefore don't restrict your movement. If they were fixed they could not move.
Heated grips. Most are not very good. Its the controllers that fail due to not being properly watertight. I have heard the symtech (spelling?) are the best. They going on the bars and grips are put over the top. |
The best deal is to be had with R + G grips:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/R-G-Heated-M.../dp/B005FU89QM for about 35
They got a decent write-up from RiDE magazine, but as John said, the controller is the thing that will fail first. You can probably find them cheaper at the Bike show this weekend? I bought the Symtec ones for around 45, which are like underfloor heating for your existing grips. These are fantastic, easy to fit (full instructions included) and REALLY warm. Nice setup in there mate!
Thanks for sharing. May pop in the show and see whether I can grab any bargain :) |
When the controller fail just fit a fully adjustable one like the one from

Hi,
just for the records. I fitted today the Tucano Urbano R319 muffs and they fitted very nicely. :thumbsup[1]: Found no problems to put the muffs around the Barkbuster Storm handguards ( http://www.barkbusters.net/products/17.html). Few bad pics inside the garage: http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/34/fo0m.jpg http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/543/7k8x.jpg Thanks for your help! |
Just as an added bit of security, i bought hose clips (jubilee clips) and they go round the crossbar with the stiffened velcro type piece underneath.
Did them up real tight and then filled the slot in the jubilee clip with solder. Ok, it's not going to stop the most enterprising of thieves but it would take them a couple more minutes to nick them. |
Just for info in case anyone else is looking for these. TU have discontinued these and just the universal version is now being made (333 I think) but there have been incompatibility issues on some bikes, so check first. So get these before they go. eBay still has some.

Having blown 50 on these and tried them out on the way to work, I have to say on an XTX I hated them. Had to stop after a few miles and cut the extra furry section off as it was getting caught on my gloves when I took my hand out and then getting in the way when trying to put my hands back in, bloody dangerous in my opinion. Difficult to get to indicators and horn and not very roomy in the right places. Maybe they are fine on an XTZ. Anyone who wants a half price pair with the dangerous bit carefully removed, PM me. They've covered 12 miles and will have everything except the cable ties included.
Now I've spent another 40 on the neoprene ones that are bar end compatible and can't see why it's an issue fitting them inside the hand guards (Yamaha original guards at least ) I'll see how they go on the way home. |
I have to say, for what I want, the neoprene is way better, and not the size of a courier bag each either.
