OTR Hugger for XT660X Problems
 

Think this is the right place so here it goes

I bought the OTR Hugger for my X and I am having some problems which go a little like this :

The hugger has to wholes on the back which are ment to go in to the same wholes as that silly rubber mat < I broke the rivets on removing them:crybaby2: also the wholes on the back do not line up also !

This is a problem as it is in contact with the swingarm and has rubbed a small amount of paint off it

any advise would be really help !:help::surrender:

The first thing that springs to mind is which XTX swingarm is it designed for - the steel or aluminium item? That'll have a big effect on how well it fits. Have you been sent the right one for you bike's model year? What year is your bike? AFAIK there are three versions of the hugger to cover all the R/X models.

It is the a fibreglass hugger for the 07 X as far as i know it is the rite one for my bike

I'd guess then that the holes were poorly drilled then (on the hugger that is). Could you widen them enough to get them to line up and then use trim plugs with bigger heads or washers to cover the enlarged hole?

The trim plugs I use to hold the flap on are these...

There are others available with wider heads too. Cheap and cheerful and in bags of 25, so you can aways carry spares.

I got sick of fiddling about breaking the OE ones, losing the centres in the swingarm, plus the originals don't like mud and grit.

Think it mite be Badly drilled as on of them is alittle off lol and these strong as i got some different ones and the were pretty weak ?

The above trim plugs are strong and tight. I have used for the last three years without any trouble. However, admittedly they aren't holding on a hugger, just the rubber flap.

Other alternative is to drill the hugger holes out, line them up properly, tap threads in the swingarm and bolt the thing down. That would be a proper job.

cheers dont know weather it will be holding both atm..... If i want to get them wholes threaded is that and easy job as i am a noob when it comes to that sort of stuff lol
