put a zip tie around the pipe just at the top of the cig filter and crimp the pipe enough to stop it moving upwards

there is no significant pull with the bung in a cant get it to suck wd40 up ...
but as a precaution thats what i did just in case the bung falls out

see you soon

See you in a couple of weeks

If you hit dirt and rock and the bung gets pulled off (due to it's long length)then you'll be riding along with the engine sucking in un filtered air from the road or dusty trails.

I took the opposite approach to solve the same problem of the low-hanging bung - I fitted a longer pipe and posted under the motor inside the bash plate. Keeps it out of the way and gives almost twice the capacity to hold oil (even though there is actually always less than you think in the tube).

I never got the later breather mod done either; the dealer wasn't interested and I couldn't be bothered to chase it up.

I measured the contents of the tube once: 500 continuous motorway miles at about 75-85 mph, the (original length) tube had filled up (probably a bit in the airbox too) and contained 25ml of oil when I drained it down. By my reckoning you'd have to 10000 fast miles for the level to get dangerously low and 15000 miles before the airbox got critically full of oil! ;)

Chugging around the back roads and lanes the tube doesn't fill up at all.

The oil itself is clean, and could theoretically be put back in the tank, but it's probably not a good idea as the risk of it being contaminated by the cack around the pipe end while you draining it is quite high.

Another good idea...and as you say...there's only a small amount that drains out relative to what's in the engine,i.e. 2.6 litres

:)
