Show me your Muff (s)
Right,
It's getting cold. There, I've said it. I'd rather look like an idiot than be freezing cold, so I'm going down the line of Bar muffs and heated grips. I have the Yamaha handguards on at the moment, but they do virtually nothing for wind break (have saved my fingers on a couple of drops, though) Has anyone got muffs? can you post a link or some photos? Also, heated grip recommendations? Lotsa love, Weave. |
Haven't used bar muffs on a bike since the late 80s, not since heated grips became more readily available. However, this thread might give you some food for thought...
http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=18436 On the Tenere I have had Oxford Hot Grips, which worked OK till the controls broke. Then I fitted Symtec grip heater pads, which were infinitely better... http://www.windingroads.co.uk/shop/product.php/116/symtec-motorcycle-heated-grip Now I swear by heated gloves and vest by Gerbings - not cheap, but I would not go back to heated grips again after experiencing the loveliness of heated clothing. |
I just posted a thread on adventure bike forum with a load of pics. Place over in watford have em in stock.

Thanks John,
checked out your thread on ABR Ordered Tucano Urbano 325 muffs today. Couldn't find a UK supplier but got them cheap from Italy. Nice one. |
Can confirm that R325 is the wrong model number!
I've managed to sell them on eBay now and bought the correct ones. XTZ owners with handguards will want R319 They fit like a 'glove' :P |

Thanks for sharing. |
I have some cheap muffs that i can't recommend. They are not stiff enough so could'nt get my hands in again if i took them out at highway speeds because the muf started flapping. Sorted it with some copper wire stitched around the opening.
Only picture from a rather said moment with a broken chain . http://majland.org/blog/?p=220 http://majland.org/blog/wp-content/u...varivalby1.jpg With regard to heated grips i've been trough a few pairs sets of Saito from louis.de - The controls are crap but the grips themself are ok. After i broke the first pair i but some heat-shrink tube around as reinforcement on the new ones. Had them on both the XT600Z (with the crap controller) and the XTZ750 with an fully adjustable from enduro stamtisch http://www.enduro-stammtisch.de/ At some time i also bought a set of Hein Gerickes housebrand of grips with only off/low/high. I fitted the controller to the pot. meter of the adjustable died of corrosion from bad weather. The Hein Gericke grips are now fitted to my current ride but with a controller from mccoi.de His pot.meter i supposed to be fully waterproof http://www.tenere.dk/forumnew/uploads/119/IMG_0508.JPG More pics on http://www.tenere.dk/forumnew/forum_...ID=72331#72331 |
Tucano Urbano products are generally excellent and prices very reasonable at least here in Italy. Ask me if you want help as I live near the main Roma stockist and he has almost everything in stock. Ciao

These are very old now but work fine,I've got KTM handguards underneath.I wouldn't use them without the guards because they can interfere with the controls and switches.I've cut a hole in the sides and screwed the bar weight through.
I get a bit of a weave on above 90 especially with the top box fitted as well! A mate gave them to me,I think MPS may have been a mail order place like M&P or Busters way back. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2890/1...6ba79b23_b.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3824/1...05e4e3a1_b.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3770/1...499cd86c_b.jpg |
Yes, I would certainly not recommend these without handguards.
I'm pretty sure that at 70mph+ these would press on your brake lever. If you want a set with holes ready for your bar weights, go for R317. Otherwise, go for R319 which I've done. Fixed mine with cable ties and a couple of jubilee clips for security |
