Killed my turbulence.......
First off I can't post pics I don't think so you are going to have to use your imagination until I figure it out.
I took a disco speaker cover grill and cut it into a nice shape and bolted it onto the cross brace bar that runs across the handle bars. Bent it into shape and it has completely eliminated the buffeting even with a motorcross helmet and goggles on. Has anyone got some quick info on posting pics on this forum ? It doesn't look too bad and doesn't get in the way at all. I went out to test it and I quickly found myself cruising at 75/80 instead of 65/70 without really knowing it.... brilliant but I bet my fuel bill goes up now, lol hahahhahahahahah :116: |
For posting images read these threads:

Ok I can work with that, I will take some pics in the daylight tomorrow and post up asap....
|
Here's a link to the grill I used.
It cuts really easy with heavy duty scissors or tin snips.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Pair-1...ht_1900wt_1278 |

OK, I managed to post up a picture, it rotated it weird for me as I got them the right way but photbucket twisted them again....
Tilt your head... Killed turbulence completely at anything up to about 85/90mph and even then I reckon the turbulence was coming over the screen... I put my hand under the grill and I could feel it physically pushing my hand up and just above the grill there was nothing.... Job done.... |
Looks funny...but if it works might be worth to give it a go?!
Where did you get this idea from? |

Also, if you want to mount your sat-nav case above your speedo, I got a small RAM mount from http://www.buybits.com/ |

Taking her out again tomorrow and it is really muddy now, been raining... Thanks for the Nav tip, I have a GPSMAP60 that I want a RAM mount for.... |

It's black It's light. You can still see through it and it works..... |
TBH, yesterday I picked up my Tenere from dealer after few warranty issues, didn ride it for last 8weeks...and on the way home - approx 130miles on motorway - my neck was hurting cos of the turbulence - I forgot how bad it is on this bike and the seat as well..jeeez.
I have the wind deflector already but yes, more wind is coming from the 'bottom' between tank and forks. I think I will give your idea a go... How about the access to ignition? THX Chris |
You are aware of the amazing WindCOMB solution?
http://www.xt660.com/showpost.php?p=97210&postcount=65 ...which is less a get-in-the-way then a BBQ on your bar. ;) HJ |

There's a place on Fleabay selling windcomb in metre lengths.... |
Good place to rest your coffee and muffin on when you're taking a breather at the Newbury services.
The only thing I've found which kills the buffeting is a 50 mph Patagonian tail wind. Seriously, try it - it's like riding a GSA 1200 with a 700 after-market touring screen (I assume - I've never ridden one!!!) |

Ok lads, I've gone down the windcomb route now.....
The BBQ as it was dubbed started to rust and the paint started to flake off and it wasn't nice so I pulled that idea and have done the windcomb. 1 metre length cost me 98p and the results are good. I have doubled up as I had enough so I have a row about halfway up the tunnel and a row at the top to create as much disruption to the air as possible. works a treat, looks better.... |
Was 1 metre length enough to do both rows of comb?

Also dit something similar
Hi there,
I have also solved the problem with something I made, very crude at the moment but it works. It's just a bendable plastic, so I just lift it up if I want to insert my key, that I cut into the shape you see on the pic. I just stuck some Carbon sticker on it, it's a prototype, that I have been using for a year. I have a Renthal MX bar pad and I just stick it under that, it sits tight so it has never moved or fallen out. You can feel the air being re-directed if you put your hand there. Sorry for the bad pics. http://i1306.photobucket.com/albums/...pseb28736f.jpg http://i1306.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5f784162.jpg http://i1306.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3dd7e6d0.jpg http://i1306.photobucket.com/albums/...pseb7bda69.jpg |
Reduced the buffeting
Hi all, following some of the advice and experience from this forum I fitted a Giant Loop ZigZag handlebar bag as it seemed to be the simplest solution and place to start. while it has reduced the buffeting a little bit it's not a proper solution. removing the peak from my Aria Tour X4 made the biggest Improvememt.

Hi Gibbo, what have you used to attach the grill to the handlebars and is that a GPS case you show in the pics?
|
Just noticed the birdcomb solution - so forget the question!
