And there's plenty of research showing that just brighter lights helps very little in making motorcycles more visible. Adding additional lights as far apart as possible makes the bike look wider and helps a lot more with getting noticed.

So when one of the 100W bulbs blew I just put a regular 55W back in.

Since the last blow (July 2013), I've replaced the standard bulbs with Ring XENON Ultima 12v 55w px26d, H7 RW1277 bulbs. They are sold as being ...up to 120% more light on the road... and cost a staggering �30.90 for the pair :rotf[1]: from a main Yamaha dealer too.

I've yet to see if they do make any difference...anyone have these??

You need to bear in mind that the real weakness with the Tenere headlight is the poor design of the reflector and the beam pattern - there is really no magic bulb that will "get more light on the road", not with the standard headlamp anyway.

I have done about 50,000km over the years on 3 XT660Xs, never off road of course, and I have never had to replace any bulbs. I have done less than 8000 km on my 2011 XJR 1300 and just had to replace a headlight bulb. Good average!!!
