Top speed for the XT?

I have seen people on youtube ride their bikes in approx 187km/h (~116 mph). How fast can you drive with your bike?
I have not got my bike faster than 167 km/h (103.7 mph).. Well, I don't remember the weather conditions and I'm quite heavy (~98 kg, ~216 lbs) but how can the difference be so big?

I have open air filter (K&N), slipon, Kev O2 controller and a PowerJet to get more fuel.. I have default sprockets (15/45) as well.. Is it only possible to reach 187 km/h with other sprockets or do any reach those speeds with default sprockets?

Isn't my bike well "burned in" when it was new or why don't I reach higher speeds? It feels very responsive even in those speeds..

Pleiades 07-09-13 15:46

Well, I don't recall ever exceeding an indicated 95mph on mine and I don't intend trying to push the speed envelope any further either! ;)

WeaveMcQuilt 07-09-13 17:48

119mph with no luggage, tucked in, slight downhill.

Not even tickling 6,500 RPM... ran out of road before I could find out if it went any faster.

112mph with me and tall screen on my modded x

Petenz 07-09-13 23:30

I have had my XTR with standard gearing 15/45 up to
170kmh passing a line of cars...

Kev 07-09-13 23:35

I have been over 200kph on Chris's big bore 76hp XTX sitting up.

SimonRoma 08-09-13 06:31

Indicated 177 kph on my XTX with standard gearing, flat down on tank with 2km straight run up. If you wanna performance bike look elsewhere!!!!

Im not looking for a performance bike, I just had a question why I only reach 167 km/h when others can reach 187 km/h .. That is 20 km/h more, quite alot..

Maybe it is because of My weight... :p 98 kg.. ;)

Just a thought... You haven't got/had a Speedo-Healer fitted by a previous owner? Your top speed sounds about right if you assume the speedo is spot on and accurate. XT speedos tend to read about 10% fast. So 187kph on an optimistic speedo is going to be about the same as a 167kph on a "corrected one". In which case you're bike's speed is roughly the same as everyone else's! ;)

Check it with a GPS...

Yes, will check with gps..
Don't think a speedo healer is installed. It was also default kitted with 15/45, so no speedo healer was needed.. I don't think the drive line has ever been replaced. Only 10500 km (~6524 miles?) on the meter when I bought it.

Some folks fit speedo healers even without any change in gearing because they can't cope with the speedo being so optimistic and want to know exactly how fast they're going. (Or maybe can't do the maths involved in knocking 10% off! ;) )

SWR 22-09-13 18:16

I have done 175km/h on mine sitting upright.

alex11977 22-02-15 16:33

Xt660x 115mph

cca 22-02-15 22:02

xt660r, no modifications, 165 kmh

Pleiades 22-02-15 22:30

After all this time, it's good to see I am still officially the slowest member here at 153km/h or 95mph! :infant:

XT Donkey86 23-02-15 01:11

Only ever had my 2007 XTX at 105mph :D

Kev 23-02-15 08:08

Over 200kph on Kris007 monster XT.

kris007 23-02-15 11:24

And still pulling hard, but unfortunately the roads are not long enough and the police don't like it much either

Wow , balls of steel !! & with no fairing !!

I got my Tenere to 169km/h on the flat calm day, stock gearing, stock foam filter, Akra pipes & Kev Fuel mods. Great on the straights , corners not so.

top speed XT

Hi I opened my xtz up for the first time this week end just out of curiosity. Sat bolt upright on the level it went round to an indicated 100 mph with no bother and i was not on full throttle!! well impressed. I know its probly low ninetys but still it hauled my ass 115 kg with no bother.:angel3: oh its totally stock no performance mods yet. I dont think my speedo is as optimistic as some I drive this stretch of road regularly in my car and the average traffic speed is just under eighty. I cruise at 5000rpm on the bike and the speedo reads 82 ish. When i opened the bikeup I even left the fast pack BMWs who where doing around ninety for dead. I think my tom tom under reads when I have used it in the car its probly not recalculating fast enough.

jon660z 18-06-15 21:27

Had 109mph (indicated) out of my modded Z, (private land, 100% legal)

DNA air filter and snorkel removed.
Kev mods. Stock gearing.
Tall screen, new army specials.
130kg rider. Tucked in trying to snap throttle.cable.

Garmin says 98 mph.

Tires where howling like a banshee :wicked01:

darkhelmet 18-06-15 22:24

well tires can matter. knobbies vs street tires make a difference in power delivery i think

and elevation, at 1500m i think there's about a 10% power loss

109mph on Army Specials! I tell you, that takes balls of steel! :notworthy:

I should think most of their knobbly bits are still stuck to the road! ;)

dallas 20-06-15 14:35

I don't know and I honestly don't care what the topspeed is! This kinda bike isn't about speed, but about havin' fun getting there(where ever that may be!), is it onroad or offroad...... But to each its own, gladly we don't like all the same things!

Il Solitario 20-06-15 23:08

A month or two ago I reached 187km/h (around 116mph) on the German Autobahn, laying on the tank as flat as possible. Was on the way back home from a dirt bike training. Real speed may have been slower, but the Garmin was switched of. After a short time it started to feel a bit strange, as the rear tire decided to throw away some knobbies... :eusa_whistle:

That's the result:

http://www.xt660.com/gallery/display...p?imageid=2203

So I agree: top speed is not important and can become expensive

Funny you should say that. This was the result of that particular run.

http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...psb74b20ca.jpg

Every single centre knobble had either fell off or was in the process of leaving.
I replaced it with this maxxis whuch was without doubt the hardest sh*test tyre ive ever used.
It did last 11,000 miles.though.

http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps8eeea68b.jpg
But like i said my speedo is like a politician. Its a Lying b*stard haha

Gps said 98. Guess that speed.rating on the tyre is there for a reason lol.

Its really rather amazing how much you lose the urge to find the top speed when large sections of your tire make a bid for :brave: at almost 100mph. As you can probably guess ive neglected too rerun that particular experiment.
:rofl[1]:

Mort 22-06-15 10:47

Top speed i just use the rev limiter:HeyHey_GOO2MN:.

peech 22-06-15 19:31

i nearly got to 27mph on mine before i ran out of garden.... best aim for the wobbly bits between the fence posts. are forks expensive?
