Red key problem
I've lost my key can anybody help.
|
I assume you mean you've lost the red key (rather than a black one)?
If you have lost the red one, then there's not a lot you can do, apart from being very careful not to lose your black keys! If you do need black one's replacing you will not be able to programme the blanks without the red key. A new red key means a new ECU!! :( BTW - Welcome to XT660.com! |
replaced key
I bought a used XT660R (2009) from the auction, and it only had one black key with it, no red key at all. When I found this out I started to panic, but went to locksmith with the one black key I had. He put it in a machine, then copied a chip and put it in a new blank, presto, it worked. Cost me $150.00, but cheaper than replacing everything. At least I have a spare now.

When I bought my Z the previous owner could not find the red key. My local bike shop took out my barrel and ECU and sent it off ??? to get the red key made and programmed to the ECU. They put the bits back in the bike and now I have a red key. Previous owner paid for it, and it was cheaper then replacing the whole lot.
