Might be worth changing the fluid, a 2010 bike should have had the brake fluid changed in 2012, you may have air in the lines.

If not changing the fluid (which you'll do anyway with new brake lines), at least bleed them and top up.

New lines do make a small difference, the brakes have a more positive feel to them over the OE setup. But I don't recall the OE setup being particularly spongy

The bike has been in storage in one of mom and step dads barns in mid wales for the last year and a half, when I got it up to Scotland it had a really thorough service, brakes taken apart and cleaned and new fluids throughout the bike, new plug, new oil and filter etc.

The brakes I think feel spongy as I can't remember what they felt like, I have a feeling they have always been a bit soft. They need to be used to get rid of any crud that's built up as well so I can't be too accurate until a good long run has taken the film off them.

New brake levers ordered though!
