test ride the Tenere or not!

Hello one and all this is my first post, I would very much like to say I've just purchased a 660Z but in my area no dealer has a demo available and is not very interested in helping to locate one, I must say locally its a very poor response.

In the past I have owned Honda Ktm BMW and dealers bend over backwards to supply demo bike for testing:022:. The local Yamaha Dealer said they are a great bike and he sells a lot with out being test ridden.:puke:HELP!

He's not wrong - I'm one of the people he's talking about!

Bought mine back in 2008 without a test ride; in fact, at the time I hadn't even seen one in the flesh!

Nearly five years on, I've still got it and still love it - it's great! :smilies0349:

glad its been good for you but I can not spend 7K plus on any bike with out a test ride I don't think its unreasonable to expect a quick spin to make sure its what you want and is suitable:hae18:

Yup.

May 2008, mine appeared in the showroom when I went in for brake pads, came out with a new Tenere. The first time I rode it was away from the dealer, then I carried on until I'd covered over 9000 miles in a few weeks.

Never regretted it.

Today, the same bike sailed through it's 3rd MOT.

Welcome along.

Admittedly, they were a less salty list price of 4899 back then! But that doesn't really help you either! ;)

Maybe someone on here who lives near you might be so kind as to let you have a quick spin on their's...

I'm also enthusiastic about the Tenere but I'd strongly advise you to test ride before buying, especially if you don't have experience of big singles.

I was fortunate to borrow one for a few miles in Morocco and liked it, however it's clearly not everyone's cup of tea—the bike I ended up getting was only three months old and was already on its second owner.

Can't you find a dealer that has a used bike for sale, they should let you test ride that as the bike hasn't really changed since launched apart from a few cosmetic things.

Nick.

Haha I refused a test ride, had already decided it was the bike for me! Did get a shock at the wind buffeting up from the tank (sorted with a tank bag) but apart from that exactly as I expected.
Spent $400 on goodies today, sw motech crash bars and pegs... Centre stand on order... Maybe I shouldn't have bought it, wallet would be thicker but smile would be lower!!
