XTX rear wheel in an XTR tyre question.
I had a damaged hub on my R. (2006)
Changed rear bearings twice this winter before retiring the XT from off road duties. It really is not up to more than light trails to be honest. Discovered the hub damage while prepping the bike for European touring. Friend of mine who damaged a hub doing off roading like me took 18 months to find a wheel for his R. I thought I'd found one but when it arrived it was for an X. (2004 model) I thought I'd see if it would fit; it does. Turns out the X has the same swinging arm as the R until 2007. Therefore all X wheels will fit an R up until 2007. Looking at part numbers I think the X rim (& hub) is the same after 2007 despite the swing arm change so any X rear wheel should fit any R. Anyway; here is my question. I can squeeze a 130 tyre onto the X rim; it looks fine; 130 is the smallest tyre you should fit to a 4.25 rim though. I have a good 10mm clearance either side so I think i can go to a 140. Has anyone tried a 150 on the R rear wheel? This would be too big for the R rim I know but fine for the X rim. Grateful for any information before I buy any tyres :) I'm planning on a K60. |
I got a 150 tyre on my XT660R only for to the job cruise not for offroad there I got other wheels for.
The rear wheel is for XTR http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/05/24/gy5a7a5y.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/05/24/zu2ase8e.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/05/24/4emaquja.jpg Skickat frn min GT-I9100 via Tapatalk 2 |
It is possible to fit an xt660x wheel in an xt660r swing arm. You can use the existing spacers and its all good.
A 150 Tourance fits easily and I suspect you could squeeze a 160 in there. A 160 might just touch the plastic chain guard but a washer or two behind the front tab would sort that out. Plenty of clearance to the actual chain and swing arm. |
