How to grease rear suspension & swing arm (part 3)

Clean the swing arm bearings with petrol and an old toothbrush.

On the opposite side of the swing arm you'll find a plastic bushing instead of the usual needle bearings one finds here on other motos. Not a keen fan of this idea...Yamaha is being a cheap skate in my opinion.

Lower swing arm bearings cleaned and ready for greasing.

As before, normal steel cage in the bearings.

Here you can see the needle roller cage in bits...like a silicon cage which has dissolved.

There'll be 38 needles in each side....(there's 37 here as one is now on the floor)

Whilst the toothbrush is out clean here also....

Next start on the suspension linkage pivots. Loosen off the bottom shock bolt with a 14mm socket and a 17mm spanner and take out the bolt.

The bolt is quite corroded. It'll be cleaned with a wire brush and coated in copper grease.

Next take off centre stand spring....this will become apparent over the next few pics.

Take off chain roller. An 8mm spanner and a 12mm spanner is required.....note the bolt head opposite the ring spanner.

Loosen off the frame to 'elbow' bolt.... 19mm and 17mm spanners are required.

The chain roller has to be taken off to allow the bolt to be extracted. It's too long and will touch the bolt head of the chain roller bolt.

Lift off the 'elbow' from the moto.

Loosen off middle 'elbow' bolt with two 17mm spanners....you can do this whilst it's still on the moto if you want. This way I can note,on my moto, what way the riser bones fit.

The pins are still moist with a layer of grease...so OK so far.
