Mitas E-09: Dakar or Normal, TT or TL?
I am trying to order a pair of Mitas E-09 for the XTR for an extended trip to Morocco and my research with Openeo has uncovered the following options (price includes delivery):
Front Mitas E-09 90/90-21 54 T Front TT M/C 40 Mitas E-09 90/90-21 54 T Front TT M/C Dakar 41 (55 Trellesport + delivery) Rear Mitas E-09 130/80-17 65 T Rear TT M/C 46 Mitas E-09 130/80-17 65 T Rear TL M/C Dakar 51 (69 Trellesport + delivery) From my reading, I think the Dakar option would suit me better (longer life etc) but I note that Openeo rear Dakar option is Tubeless. I realise that fitting a tube inside is an option, however, are there are any other downsides that I should consider with buying a tubeless tyre? Such as. Will I be able to break the bead? These are reportedly stiff, will I be able to fix on the trail? etc. My goal is to get around 6,000 mile out of these and I am normally not too harsh on tyres. That said, this is the first trip with the XTR. I have listed the same tyres at Trellesport but the website does not mention whether they are TT or TL type tyres. Mitas website confirms that they make the 130/80-17 in both TT and TL variants. Any advice is appreciated. Cheers, Dale |
Crisis averted, I think???
Just an update - Openeo have sold out of tubeless E-09 Dakar taking some of the decision away from me. :D
Back to the drawing board and/or confirming whether Trellesport are offering the tube type E-09 Dakar that will be 50% more expensive delivered :( |
I run tubed E-09 Dakars on my XTR and like them a lot, I have a spare set to follow on so to speak. I got them from Trelleborg but they do seem to have shot up in price of late! 6k may be pushing it a bit for the rear if there are loads of road miles before the rough stuff?

Thanks Hermy - I have read many good things about these tyres and the price justifies giving them a go - well I thought it did. I was sure that the price from Trellesport was previously lower, hence I checked Openeo to discover a much more wallet friendly price, unfortunately, not in the model that I want being the Dakar and tube type.
The search continues..... |
Tried Mytyres or Pneus ?

Sadly, no joy, but I've saved the sites for future reference. :protest: |
I see Oponeo have a 120/90x17 E09 Dakar which would work for you. I've used this size in the past and it's ok. At 47 that's cheap. You can also fit a 140/80x17 Eo9 Dakar at 54. Still cheap and I've used this size before too. The 140 is tubless but not a problem.

I like the Metzeler Unicross on the front because it works better in soft or loose gravel ground.

Cheers Jimmy!
Plenty of food for thought and I do like the look of the unicross. What sort of mileage do you get out of the front? |
Around 6000 miles from the Unicross front. It's actually quite good on the black stuff too.
