Removed crash bars - increased vibration ???

I haven't had my bike long (2010 660Z).

I removed the (givi) crash bars yesterday as I don't like the look of them very much.

I rode the bike today and it seemed to vibrate more than it did before. I guess I could be imagining this.

Any ideas why? Could the bars have damped some vibration down? One of the engine mounts was used to fix the bars in place but I think I've put it back right/tight.

I guess it could be just it's quite a vibey bike (I'm talking 70+mph in top gear). I hadn't ridden it that much before so I don't have much to compare with.

Wouldnt have thought they would make any real differance, and yes if your not used to a single then the vibes are there. Mind I think the Yam engine is one of the smoothest... try a KTM 640 engine !!

The Tenere is very susceptible to vibrations if the front engine mounts are not torqued correctly. I'd definitely have a look again and check this.

Did you use the (longer) bolts that would have come with the crash bar mounting kit or the OE ones. The Givi bolts may not have enough thread on them when used without the crash bar mounts as additional packing? It may be worth buying a fresh set of OE engine mount bolts as they do "stretch" if they are removed and retightened several times.

More than like as above. Mine started a nasty vibe and I free the worst but it turned out to be nothing more than the lower engine bolt a few turns lose.

See forums are so useful sometimes

Cheers gents.

I had taken that front bottom engine bolt out and done it up again. The vibration seemed a bit better.

I'll get a Yamaha bolt as I had put the Givi one back in and it looks a bit long.

Does anyone know what the correct torque for that nut / bolt is when I do have the proper bolt? I have a torque wrench (somewhere!).

The other thing is I've never been convinced that the substitute engine mount bolts manufacturers (like Givi) supply with aftermarket guards and bashplates are actually high tensile?
