First offroading for my Ten

Did have a run out on the bike yesterday to scrub of the newness of my Mitas, so did a few back roads and some of our local BOATs. Wasnt going to do this as Id gone out totally unprepared with nil tools/spare tubes. I also did go off the beaten track also and nearly got 200kg of scooter stuck in a remote bog.... B leedin silly I thought to myself !!!
I found the Ten to feel somewhat unwhieldy off road and was slightly dissapointed with it. I have part put it down to not being out for a while, so will see what its like next time on it.
The tyres I have bought are Mitas E09 rear (same as a T63 and felt good enough on rocky stuff but did spin a lot on bog... but then with our weather of late what wouldnt) and a E10 (bit like a TKC) on front and was much the same as the rear.
One point to note for off roading on a Tenere is remove stupid number plate holder off bike and either do a home made tail tidy or get a purpose built one as the number plate lasted all of 5 mins on a stoney lane at 30 ish mph !!!

Did stop for a couple of pics mind

Once you've found the 'guts button' a.k.a. 'No Fear button' (it's somewhere between your ears) and open the throttle, things will become a lot easier.

The Ten is at best at speed, its weight will help you to push/plough through/over most of the obstacles you'll encounter.

Tires are OK. In really sandy/muddy conditions you might be more comfortable with enduro tires (like Michelin Enduro Competion IV). Run them at about 1.0bar / 14,5 psi for more grip on slippery grounds.

Be careful not to pinch flat and at that pressure with 200Kg + inc rider you'll be needed security bolts.

Oh guts isnt the issue but after years of riding some of Wales finest forests, trails and slag heaps on enduro machinery, doing it on these bigger bikes is a whole new ball game... coupled in with the fact ,I dont really want to stuff it up to bad and bend it ( as its my only pride and joy now) and dont want to get 200 kgs on top of me, especially on my own.
I am off down Pembroke on Sat for a road ride so my tyres have to be a compromise for do a bit of everything, but I always loved Enduro Comps on my dirt bikes, dont think I would use them on the Ten

I would never really run at those on big bikes, I seem to be finding 24 psi ok so far, but did go out the other day with 32psi!! (No wonder it didnt track great )

I love these on the front with a T63 rear... that was my combo on my XR400 for long range dual sporting

maybe you just need to get used to it after riding smaller enduro machines?

When i first got mine i thought it was a lump off road, i now think for its size/weight its fairly capable. but as said above...speed is your friend. (plus the Tenere crashes quite well)

I use an E0-9 rear. They are a good all round tyre, i dont run the rear below 20PSI off road...normally about 25-28PSI on road and around 30-32PSI with luggage.

I'm now using Metzeler 6 days front and Mitas CO2 rear with rim locks and 25psi.

Still a big girl to manage, but rewarding in a nice way.

I think there may be room for a 450 enduro machine in my garage now..
