a week end in the hills..NZ

The 2013 DB1K ride report in pictures..
2 days & 1000km of bike wrecking roads/tracks..
I took the XTR this year... It was great for 90% of it
but the other 10% it was way out side it's
comfort zone... All in all it done better than I exspected..

Looks Awesome!

While the XTR may not have been ideal for 10% of that ride, I wonder what figure the boys would quote on the big GS? Some of those rocky crossings would be very hard work!

With respect to the damage to the rear undercarriage from the suspension bottoming out, were you running the lowering links at the time?

Pic 92...... 93 - is that the Clyde dam mate? Cromwell etc?
If so were you on the tracks on the hills surrounding the lake and dam?

Cheers,

Ian.

Long story but....I worked for Works in the late 80s and was based in Lower Hutt. We were involved with the seismic work on the surrounding hills above the dam before it was completed. We used to fly into Queenstown and stay in the 'old' Cromwell. Good days working on the hills - shorts and boots in the Summer, thermals overalls and boots in winter. A lot of tracks were put into the area to get drilling rigs up there. In those days they were very 'hairy' in winter even in a landrover or cruiser, not a lot better in Summer either.

Nice one.
