Model year differences

Hey guys.

When looking online for XT accessories, I keep seeing that some items are 2004-current, and others are 2004-2009. Can anyone tell me what changes were made in the 2010+ models as I can't figure out what items are and are not compatible.

Thanks!

Xtx, Xtr?

Hamslay 31-01-13 10:26

Sorry. I thought that posting in the XT660R section would be quite clear. It's the R.

:)

Kev 31-01-13 11:44

Sorry mate just me not looking, what mods are you talking about as the R is pretty much unchanged since 2004.

Hamslay 31-01-13 11:49

No worries Kev. Thanks for replying.

I have a "shopping list" as follows:

Side stand extender
Heated grips
Hand guards
Centre stand
Satnav mount
Scottoiler
Bash plate

I'm yet to canvass opinion on the best of each (do feel free to guide me..) but was just a little confused about some parts saying 2004-2009.

Also, my bike is registered on a 2011 number plate, but is actually a 2009. I don't have a problem with that, but it would be nice to know if there is actually a difference.

Thanks.

Here's a good example. I emailed SW Motech about centre stand compatibility, as some ads say 04'-'09 such as

http://www.motorradgarage.com.au/pro...product_id=508

but others say '04 onwards.

http://www.motorcycle-road-and-race....-p-223031.html

SW Motech replied "Unfortunately the centre stand it will not fit on later models.".

So does it fit or doesn't it? And if not, what changed on the chassis from 2010 on.

:confused1:

I have an 09 XTR and the SW Motech centre stand fits fine and is well worth it.

I can't see how later models would of changed much, It's a Yamaha after all.

From 2004 to 2011 there is no part number change to the Frame.

All the mods on your list will fit all years.

Hamslay 01-02-13 10:26

Thanks guys. That's good to know. I wouldn't be surprised if a retailer wasn't confident about compatibility, but it's odd that SW Motech in Germany don't even know!!

Kev, if the frame was unchanged, can you summarise fundamental changes over periods of time? Was it engine, clocks, ECU etc.?

Supamanaint, can you tell whether fitting a side stand extender would be a problem with the SW Motech centre stand? On the Touratech page for the 660Z side stand extender (which I am guessing fits the R stand), it has a warning that it is incompatible with the centre stand, but I don't know if they mean all centre stands or just one that they supply.

Thanks again.

Same motor, same clocks since 2004 for the XTR

So how come in reviews and forums, people have claimed the surging was cured on later bikes? Was this a different mapping, or is it actually untrue? :)

I believe the ECU may of been changed over the years, get one of Kev's O2 mods and bingo no surging.

Kev 01-02-13 12:33

The surging has never been cured on the XTX & XTR, the only way to reduce it is by tuning the closed loop circuit with one of Dyno jets O2 optimizers or my 2012 O2 Controller.
