Side stand.....
Ref 2012 XT660Z::
Is it just me or is the side stand a little bit too long for all circumstances and is the "loop" thing just too hard to kick down smoothly?? Had a few "wobbles" already and considering modifying it. Any suggestions / pictures of what you've done? |
Well I do not find it tricky so maybe you just need to get used to it.......mine is an XT660X.

Maybe. Aint had it long. The loop seems to hide under the footpeg. I wonder if it could've been a bit lower down.

BTW - it will get worse as miles accumulate, to the point where the bike won't stand up at all as the rear shock collapses! Stand length not a problem now with new shock and 15mm raising links though! :D |
I had the rear shock on my XTZ replaced under warranty twice as it began to sag so much the bike wouldn't stand on the side stand. I ended up ordering a Technoflex replacement spring but didn't get round to installing it before I changed the bike.
Still got the new spring. I should really stick it up on ebay! Al. Sent from my BlackBerry 9900 using Tapatalk |

Check the above - I ended up cutting it down and extending the end plate to stop it sinking into soft ground. |
i have taken 25mm out of my XTR side stand...
was a bit dodgey on uneven ground... also made it'easyer to thow yer leg over when getting on... |
I cut about 1/2 inch off my Z stand and welded a bigger footprint on it. With the old one I would sometimes have to kick a hole in the ground so it would lean over more, used to really wind me up !

Thank you. Confirmed my suspicions. Out with the hacksaw and mig 4 me :-)
