A lot of KTMs that don't have expansion tanks just dump the vented/expanded coolant on the ground - no coolant recovery at all. The two owners I know with EXCs have both fitted aftermarket tanks like this...

No reason (I guess) why you couldn't fit/make something similar, but where would/could you put it?

Do you not like the OEM tail light?...i think it looks great :)

i must admit though im amazed a company hasn't made a nice, small and light weight tail tidy for the Ten! I know OTR have but im not sure its legal in the UK??

I would love to put my Ten on a diet....i honestly think if the bike was a little lighter it would be the perfect bike. now....how can i shave some weight off it :)

Mort 18-01-13 15:36

No i don't like the tail end. When i took it off i offered up a KTM EXC mudguard /light unit almost a good fit angel of the number plate is a bit high will have another go got to find a stop tail light bulb hold.Fueling a bit out may restrict the pipe more.:gsmile:

Mort 18-01-13 15:53

i said a NICE tail tidy....:001: :001: (that ones horrid)

Mort: overall the back end of the Ten isnt the nicest is it...but, i do like the vertical LED tail lights.

What i dont like is when doing jobs to the back wheel and constantly smacking your head of the number plate or number plate hanger! :(

If you were to make your own, what would you use? you wouldnt want to make it any heavier than the standard.

I concur, but then, I've never seen a tail tidy look right on any bike, they all look a bit bolted on. As long as we have huge plates (here in blighty), the rear is always going to be illegal, or look out of place.

The best I've seen on the Ten is where people have cut down the tail themselves, some good, some not-so-good. There is a plan somewhere on here for a combined plate and light holder that fits to the cut down rear..... one of our Austrailian friends made it I think.

uberthumper 18-01-13 18:01

How much do you think the expansion tank weighs? As a proportion of the 190kg odd bike weight? :D

Mort 18-01-13 20:34

As much as my bowl of porridge in the morning LOL.?:118:

phil ten 18-01-13 23:17

just thinking of the phrase "ten on a diet".....how much weight do you think you could shave off?

That Ten that did the Hero's and Legends rally (Jenny?) was pretty dam tricked out...wonder how much lighter that was?

She lost more doing a bit of exercise.... ......

Mort 18-01-13 23:29

I don't now the largest chunk is the silencer with the tail light assemble not far behind. I had the suspension on the soft pre load now it feels harder.:smilies0966: Wheels are heavy can't aford to replace those, working on rear light assemble.:icon_study:

phil ten 18-01-13 23:34

when you say silencer...you mean going to a single can?

is the tail asembley really that heavy????

you can get universal tail tidy's here

http://shop4bikers.co.uk/shop4bikers...djustable.html

you can then also fit a combo light - brake light, tail light, plate light

http://shop4bikers.co.uk/shop4bikers...ate-light.html

Think your right about wheels / hubs. you can get Excel rims quite easily, ive looked for Talon hubs but cant find a price for the Ten......at a guess, i would say "a lot" :)
At the NEC bike show there was a wheel stand that did lovely off road wheels, made Talon / excel wheels look 2nd class. Had no price on them though....and we all now what that means.

Going single disk on the front would save a bit too. im convinced there must be wheels / hubs that are better and lighter from other bikes that would drop into the Tenere???

Mort 19-01-13 09:01

Yes Phil-Ten running single can 2" bore.Talon YEOVIL Somerset. just up the road from me,nice wheels.:love2:And yes the tail light assembly is over engineered and heavy.I like re-cycling the parts i have.going to try and fit the light bulb assemble into the KTM mudguard and you don't need a number plate light for MOT.:thumbsup[1]:

Yes - weighs a ton - I've got mine in the garage loft so I'll dig it and the standard zorst out at some point and weigh them..

tripletom 19-01-13 13:47

Standard silencer weighs 10.5kg form memory

Pleiades 19-01-13 14:36

Just weighed the standard silencer and it came in at 7.8Kg - but it has never been used, so there's no carbon/soot build up! I'd guess with a bit of muck and soot a used silencer would be maybe 8Kg?

Mort 19-01-13 15:26

Hi just checked 7.9 kg have to check the other plastics.:what:

Oh OK I guessed you needed a light for the No Plate for mot ??? Maybe that now explains all these people chopping their original tails down then does it ?

Mort 19-01-13 19:13

Yes WIDE i cauld in to my local MOT station to get a bulb for the number plate light asked the question do i need one for a Mot he say NO.:tenere:

Mort 20-01-13 22:14

That rear is bugging me :tazdevil:.Help is the tail light/brake is it LED can i use an 380 stop tail light bulb help.?:gbxtank:

tripletom 21-01-13 18:09

The number plate light isn't required for MoT but is required under the Constructions and Use regulations AKA law. The same as a speedo. You don't need one for MoT (which don't forget is just a road worthiness check at that point in time) but you do need one for use on the highway.

The rear lights are LED, the number plate light is a small bayonet bulb from memory.

the R&G one hasnt got a number plate light....has it?

http://www.rg-racing.com/browseBike/.../LP0091BK.aspx

Despite the fact the i think its an ugly tail tidy.....i think i might buy it :003:. theres just nothing out there thats better....its the best of a bad bunch.

The only plus side is i reckon those (UGLY!) rear lights will be quite bright...and thats always a good thing in my book.

tripletom 21-01-13 19:21

Not many do, they normally suggest you use the LED number plate bolts.
I do think the R&G tidy is fugly.

yes it is ugly...its though dam lights, they just look cheap!! BUT, as i said its the best of a bad bunch.

i wouldnt bother with a number plate light but its sods law the coppers will have me for it :(

Pleiades 21-01-13 20:22

Got to get top part of the KTM under guard found a 380 bulb holder that i can silicone into the light not going to use a number plate light.Think there's enough room to fit the indicators.Thinking ov take the fork gaiters off.

xphase 22-01-13 06:31

I made my own tail tidy, it looks like this: http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=20054
Number plate light is integrated at the bottom of the backlight.

Minus 3,5kg....

Mort 22-01-13 08:44

Yes i love your tail tidy, exponentially well made.:Worship_9TRHEA:

enduro374 22-01-13 09:49

Lights are included (well they were with mine) and the lights/brake lights are nice and bright - so I've been told.

Personally I like it as it's typically R&G so well designed and made. You really do want to get rid if the standard one too!
