protection (not crash bars!)

Hi

Just been cleaning the Tenere...which i hate!! hate cleaning all bikes but the Ten is a pain, so many nooks and crannies! anyway....now that ive had it a while i started to notice a few little things that i would like to rectify before they get worse.

1) ive noticed the frame is starting to wear from my boots rubbing up and down it, might get some frame protectors. think they just zip tie on?? any experience of these?

2) took the grey side pannel things off and noticed the paint on the tank is starting to flake off, i dont care because its behind the grey plastic thing.BUT...i dont want it to get worse....any advice??

3) when taking the plastic side things off that cover the bottom half of the tank, the insert came out with the screw. are these just glued in?

4) my knees rubbing against the tank is starting to mark it (cant see in picture mind you). i know people put that clear plastic sticker type stuff on...but as mine has the "tenere decal" in place, will this still work? im worried it will just look ****e. :( also, if it doesnt work and i take it off will it wreck the decal? its marked on and above the "T", and on and above the "E".

oh and also...this isnt a question...just a moan. :) took the front sprocket cover off today, and that "c" shaped metal bracket that sits behind it. can i put it back on????.....CAN I ******!what an awkward job! :093:

Thanks

I just glued some carbon-look stickers in those places.

Yes, it is just glued in and comes out quite easily.

I don't have any bad experiences with the clear stickers so far. just make sure they are nice and warm (use a hair dryer) that makes them easier to stick on nicely and to take off should you need to. The Tenere decall is covered with a clear varnish so it should not get damaged. Not making any promises though ;)

I got a bit carried away and spent 35 on a 3M Ventureshield kit for the tank from here (you can get it for fairing and mudguard too).

You get everything you need to cover the whole tank (loads more than it says on the website) - leading edges, sides (between the grey panels and the main tank), tank pad area and a piece for round the fuel filler.

Yet to fit it, but I helped my brother do his Harley with it. It's dead easy, almost invisible and is tough as old boots. The 3M stuff is very stretchy and mouldable and will cover decals without a problem.

Of course you could just use insulation or duct tape!

just remember ive got some sticky back plastic stuff, made by Motrax, bought it from a motor bike shop but used it on my mountain bikes....now where did i put it?? :)

as for the paint chipping off the lower part of the tank, i might just stick some of the clear sticky plastic over it...i just dont want it to keep flaking.

what adheisive will be best to glue the insert back inside the bar?

"I just glued some carbon-look stickers in those places."

good idea....any pics?? :)

i do like the look of those touratech frame protectors though....never seen any fitted to a Ten though?? probably due to price :)

sorry, I have no pics.

But I just took some sticky-back sheets similar to these: http://www.carbonmods.co.uk/Products...CMFLEXCFS.aspx

cut them to size and stuck them on there. I fully expect them to start wearing as well, but when they do I just replace them with another sticker. The sheets I have are A4, so there's plenty left :D
