Pity mate the G/L is a fantastic piece of kit , but dear !!! Anyway can't upset the boss !!! By the way you'll love Maroc, been a couple of times and WILL go back.

Phil

Phil, I too agree that the price of G/L is expensive (about 320). However, when you add a decent set of bags (Ortleib 140, Wolfman 180, Enduristans 220, Adv-Spec Magadan 350) plus a rack - 140 for me, it becomes competitive. Not necessarily the correct way to justify the price of the bag alone, but as a kit, it is and the ability to quickly change from bike to bike is a massive plus. Although, I am looking at army surplus bags as throw-overs at 35 with waterproof drybags for quick load/unload at 20 :D

Yeah - can't wait to escape the current temps/landscape of London for something warmer with the open space of Morocco! If I need to sacrifice the G/L option to have herself tag along for a month... that's a small price to pay ;)

Sorry Black Dog - the G/L and Morocco discussions aren't helping you with racks....

No worries, all part of the pleasure of being on this forum :)

Do I take it that the Giant Loops only protect from heat, and don't support the bags at all (except in the same way the exhaust can would)?

I agree with your statement.

I have not used the G/L heatshield but by the images and description of the product, I assume that it *only* creates a buffer between the luggage and the exhaust.

If I could convince myself that the softbag rack was up to my needs, I would buy a G/L heatshield for added security to compliment it. But then, the price creeps toward that of the dedicated rack!

I hope someone more knowledgeable comes along now and gives you some real world experience/information!

Hi B/D
Yep you'er right about the G/L , it is a heat shield but the GL bag does sit against it.
Have your soft bags got bottom tye downs ? the G/L system works by tying the bottom strap to the frame or pillion peg bracket in so pulling the bag into the can therefore the shield stops the bag burning.
How much where the Greek frames ? because 2x G/L heat shields will be 44 ish, might be worth going for the Greek one if the price is near enough

I have the givi rails on mine and use either hard or soft luggage depending on the type of trip. No reason you cant use the givi rails with throw overs. They are pretty robust, I have crash tested them more than once. I personally prefer hard cases but the XTR looks a little err.... unbalanced with my 45 l boxes! http://i882.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/DSC04808.jpg http://i882.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/DSC04741.jpg

Yes, they have loops at the bottom so you can bungee the bags tight in to the bike and keep them stable. The Greek frames come out at 44-odd, but 60 when shipping is factored in.

On my Triumph, the only way I could keep the bags in position was with masses of tie-downs to the pillion pegs etc. It made taking them off and on a real hassle. I'm hoping for something that is solid enough to hold the bags securely and allow minimal bungee deployment. Both the Greek frames and the Givis would do that. My concern would be whether the Greek ones were strong enough to cope with rough roads and bouncing about, but they are so slim and unobtrusive that without bags you really don't know they are there.

The Givis are a bit more obvious, but would be stronger and perhaps allow hard cases at some time in the future. At (round figures) 110 compared to 60, the Givis look like good value. You're getting a lot more for your money.

hey i know this is an old thread but I just bought a pair of Givi bows to my mt-03 but then you had to remove the passanger handles, which I did not want to, so i then looked quickly if they would fit on my XTX which they probably would so I took and drilled up the rear hole to fit 8 mm instead of 6 mm bolt and found some spacers and it was possible to fit straight on.

cost 500SEK (57,44USD) with shipping on ebay.
