has anyone any info or recommendations on heated grips.
my old digits are getting cold now. i had a set of KTM ones on my 950SM and they were great but I dont want anything thats to bulky |
im getting some of these
http://www.windingroads.co.uk/shop/p...le-heated-grip seen them on other peoples bikes and they are great. very reliable and with thin grips you dont even know they are there. |
I had the Symtec kit and it was excellent - thoroughly recommend. However, I have now seen the light and use heated gloves rather than grips.

Symtec heated grips with bar muffs are perfect, you can even wear thin MX gloves or similar and be toasty warm and dry

+1. I rode down to Llanthony nr Abergavenny from Huddersfield in the rain on Saturday. Nice warm hands on low setting and DRY. Heated jacket on medium and so warm my visor kept misting up! I use Tucano Urbano muffs, cover all of the grips and switches and go up the stem of the wing mirrors. Take some getting use to but once you have used them for a while you won't look back. .......and YES I use very thin gloves to allow the Symtec heated grips to get the heat through, no use using thick gloves, not that I need them!:118: |
Hope you guys remembered to insulate the bars before fitting the Symtec elements :)
What they like to fit? ordering some next week once i can decide on what grips to get. |

When I changed the bars, I opted for the Oxford sports bike grips, they are thin and feel just like normal grips. I've used Oxford grips for years and years and years and only ever had one failure (which I can't properly remember now). Others have had many failures, but not me. An old biker (long since departed now I guess) once told me that oversized gloves are the answer, having an inch of space at your finger ends. They are something you need to get used to, but it certainly works. Then again, I don't really suffer from feeling the cold. |
I discovered heated grips when I bought an FJR1300 a few years back. Wonderful machine for distance riding and Rome to Alicante was easy BUT too much like a car to me shaft drive an all so traded it in for another XJR, what a fun bike. Anyway I found the heated grips brilliant. I know that R&G sell them fairly cheap and I am told they work well....

I'm an Oxford heated grips man but just changed bikes to a tenere and parents bought me a set of hein gericke heated grips. not too bad very much like oxfords. solid buttons to push and leds to tell you what heat setting your on.
but if your really looking heat get a set of bar muffs. i got tucano urban muffs the used these for 2 years of winter commuting. bit weird to get your hands in at first but grand after use. they completely cut the wind out and I used the heated grips on low and summer glove in minus temperatures. |
Can you get muffs that are large enough to fit over handguards ??

Hi there,
Thinking of heated grips second winter now...anyway, anyone knows if oxford 'original' will fit our xt660z's ? I have Yamaha handguards - any mods to grips required before fitting or they will go straight from the box? Cheers |
Yes I'm sure they will fit as all grip parts of bars are the same, only the central section can and do change in size. I also just bought some tucano 319 muffs, hands stay proper warm now with the grips on.

The premium grips are about the same outer diameter as the original rubber grips on the bike, but 'grippier' than the original Oxford grips. Personally, I prefer them. |
Never got on with aftermarket or original
(BMW) heated grips. Found my solution with keis heated undergloves. Best 50 I ever spent. |
