If you check the insurance companies websites/conditions they generally say soft luggage DOES NOT need to be declared.

Thanks guys,
will check that out. Something learned again. Was literally a last minute decision a day before i left for the trip. Got damaged in the crash at the end and will be replaced without trouble. Lucky?
