Not quite sure if your still following this thread, however I went up to Cape York in aug 2012 on an xt660r whilst my mate went up on a xt660z. We had no dramas and the bikes were very well suited for the trip. Only real advice that I could give is to keep it light with your luggage the old telegraph track is a little sandy and my mate found the tenere a little top heavy

Hi Barney, thanks for the reply. how long did you take for your trip? had to put my sojourn on hold (work and weather) but am trying to arrange some dates for this year. im up for some new tyres on my ten, any recommendations? still running the original tourance's but find theyre not much chop off road. something with a bit more bite would be better.
