Sissy travelling around Europe.
This travel was gay compared to others I see around here, but just wanted to show that the Tenere can take long travels 2-up, with luggage, no problem. The bike has 26.000 km and is completely standard. This trip was 4.000 km, including a 900 km day. Travel speed at highway was 110-130 km/h and fuel consumption constantly below 5 lt/100 km, with tolerable vibration and acceptable wind coverage. No oil consumption and no brake fade, even doing the Stelvio, Umbrail and Spluga Passes in the same day, fully laden. Acceleration in 3rd gear was more than enough for easy overtaking in the Black Forest playgrounds and I gave the GSX-R a good run for its money. Suspension was on the soft side (the damper is approaching its end of life), but at every coffee stop the other riders where complaining that their kidneys hurt from the bumps were we driving on the same road? Only complaint is the dislike of the engine for low revs. Passenger and I always felt comfortable, apart from a sore coccyx (posh word for ass) during the long day. When we got back, I felt like filling-up the tank, turning around and go again!
PS: That part about the GSX-R is not entirely true The route http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/6392/routeby.jpg Venezia http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/4813/venicen.jpg Dolomites http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/7986/dolomites2.jpg http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/8305/dolomites1.jpg http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/8933/dolomites.jpg Stelvio Pass http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/6759/stelviou.jpg http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/4519/stelvio1.jpg Umbrail Pass http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/3695/umbrail.jpg St. Moritz http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/1778/stmoritz.jpg Chiavenna http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/98/chiavenna.jpg Passo di Spluga http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/8627/splugen1.jpg http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/9940/splugen.jpg Switzerland http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/2...itzerlandq.jpg Freiburg http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/1967/freiburgj.jpg Black Forest http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/4...ackforestj.jpg Esch-sur-Sure http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/4448/eschsursure.jpg Luxemburg http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/4196/luxemburgq.jpg Ardennes http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/201/ardennes.jpg Dinant http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/1919/dinant.jpg Amsterdam http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/6818/amsterdamfp.jpg |
Nice photos man! I'd like to travel a bit more of Europe now looking at them!
|
Don't do yourself down mate - can't see anything "gay" about your trip? Looked like a good, interesting route and clearly you had a great time out on the road judging by the excellent photos. Doesn't matter how far you ride or where you go, if you get a buzz from it, you've had an adventure!
|
Vas, looks a great trip and some cracking photos. Well done mate.
More photos please when you get time |

I like you simple and honest explanation of Tenere as you see it.
Its just like you say. The bike isnt brilliant but can deal with anything. Great trip, and nice photos. Makes me wanna go to swiss and Dolomites again. Luckily from Slovenia its not that far. Good luck! |

Probably the prettiest country in the world Yes, that was usually the case with the GSX-R (my brother), too fast. The excuse was "I'll go ahead to take photos of you coming". But we would always catch him at the next fuel station |
Good work, vaslyk. I really enjoyed seeing those photos of Europe, especially with bikes in them. I'd truly love to ride those Italian passes!
That was no sissy trip imo. Me? I would have loved it. |
Awesome. Would love to do that. Great pictures, very inspiring. :happy7:

Thanks for sharing the excellent pictures, looks like a great trip!!!!

Sharing the road with cars, that's hardcore, you just never know what they're going to do.
Looks great by the way:0) Sent from the Pit of Hell |
what tank bag have you used on the ten.?
great trip by thhe looks of things mate |
Looks like a great ride, thanks for sharing.
Long live the TEN. |
The tank bag is Touratech's, made by KAHEDO. Very pleased with it: stable, spacious and totaly waterproof (except for the map pocket).

Great trip!
Hi there,
just got myself the same Tenere you have got (same color) and it was nice to see how you enjoyed it in your trip with her :) I have been before in some of the places you have visited, but that was with my previous bike, a CBR600F. Now planning to go for a longer trip down to Australia next year! Have you done anything on the bike to minimise vibs? thanks for sharing. |
Hello hebbo,
No, I didn't do anything about the vibs. They never annoyed, but this might have to do with the fact that my previous bike was a DR-Z 400... The only change compared to original was the installation of the Touratech handguards, which replace the original bar weights with some other ones. I doubt this made much difference though. Sadly, due to job change, I had to sell my Tenere, but I would buy it again any day. Have fun in Australia! |
Great photo's of a nice trip. I'm off down that way in a few weeks time riding first of in the German IBA Road Runner Rally then heading south. Hope we have a interesting trip as yours.

Great pics thanks xxx
