Dorsoduro 750

What is the general opinion of the aprillia dorsoduro 750 on the forum? anyone tested one? MCN appear to give a decent review. Opinions please....

I test rode one a while back (it was the same bike that Ride magazine had on test so it may well have been the same one MCN and Bike had?) It was nice to look at, plenty of gizmos and a decent (if not cutting edge) ride, but boy was it shoddily put together! To be fair I think the Shiver GT is the pick of the three 750 Aprilias for VFM and will do more things more of the time (but it still a bit tinny).

The factory version is fun, leave it on sport mode though. And agree about the build quality, bit like a French car really. Check out the husky nuda 900, now built by BMW and a total hoot to ride! Would have one if I had 9k spare...

I loved it. Best fun I'd had for ages.

I was disappointed with the one I rode my XT felt as if it had much more punch through the gears but not as much top end.

I have followed the DD750 & the DD1200 in great detail, they have had many recalls & faults with them the older ones where the worst.

To mention a few.

Coolant leaks
Burn't starter motors
Starter relays
Cutting out stalling.
A few map upgrades
Coolant temp senders
Radiator fans
Throttle sensors
Decompression tensioners
Water pumps

This is one of the best Aprilia forums I have found, http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/forum.php

Yup, i suspected the Italian electrics might not quite be spot on just yet. Might test ride a factory version, think I would kick myself If it went wrong though having had no problems with my XTX at all!

I had the Shiver and there were some issues the short time I had it. I drove around for half a year with no speedometer because the dealer had to wait for the part. In the end I got tired of all the issues and sold it. Fun to drive but no fun to own...

I was having a look at the Nuda today, they do look good in the flesh.

Geometry is amazing on the nuda, go for the r version though, more trick bits and adjustable suspension...

I am starting to look for my next bike as KTM Australia have not imported a 990 SMR since 2011 due the lack of sales in Oz & I don't really want a SMT'

I will take a ride on Nuda R to see how it goes, it will be hard to go to any motard after owning a 130 rear wheel HP 990 SMR, I also need a bike I can modify otherwise I would just get bored with it.

Here today gone tomorrow.:067:

How about a new for 2013 Ducati 848 Hypermotard - reportedly going to be 120-130bhp off the shelf?

Pricey

Cant afford to buy anything new like a 2013 model, will be looking for something a few years old with a few miles done. Il keep my eyes open, for now, my XTX still makes me smile enough!

Kev 05-08-12 11:51

I loved my XTX's I had 3 brand new ones then Yamaha Australia stopped importing them so I had to move on.

Well funny people mention the Hyper, I've had the 796 Monster, same engine, and if anyone is curious, try one- the engine is beautiful thing, loads of go and good rush, interestingly theough it has a very narrow powerband, between 6-8k rpm.

Though even with the lowered servicing costs, still expensive if you use it day to day. I went to the XTX from it, and with the few mods haven't looked back.

Hey Tom, you considered looking into maybe doing a dirtbike conversion if you want to stick SuMo? Could try and track down an Yammaha DT230 Lanza and put some talon rims/hubs on it. Good strong 2 stroke engine, nice change to the XTX, and similar performance.

Ah, but the new Hyper has got the water-cooled Testastretta motor - much higher revving and broader spread of power. Makes 132bhp@10000rpm in the 848 streetfighter = even more rush and go! ;)
