Hi Kev

I've got the 2011 XT660Z Tenere. I just spent 4 hours reading about mods, filters, O2 and HPs. So, I'm thinking of getting the following:

- Kev's Mod (Fuel mod and O2-controller)
- DNA Stage 1 and 2

Is this the right stuff for my 2011 Tenere?

I've got the standard exhausts. Will a single can do any diference in HP? Or does the DNA filter stand for the larger HP-increase?

The O2 controller + Fuel mod will correct the A/F ratio for the mods you want to fit.

I offer the mods at Ebay prices less their fees if bought directly from me via PM, I will not post anywhere in South America or surrounding arears.

Hi Kev,

I have a completely stock 2010/11 XT660X which I picked up 6 months back with just 50 miles on the clock. Love everything about the bike except the fuelling. I've never been a fan of unnecessary tinkering but something had to be done as I really want to keep this bike long term.

After doing all the reading I eventually ended up on your Ebay page and have just placed my order. So eager to sort this I clicked BUY - wish I'd picked up on your reduced offer via PM here, still no worries.

Look forward to fitting the mods when the kit arrives. In the meantime my only question concerns the UK MOT test and if these mods will need physically removing to comply with current regs. I know you're in Oz and will understand if you can't answer so I invite any UK readers to enlighten me on this aspect of the Kev Mod.

I wouldn't worry too much the kev mod is hidden under the seat

As well as being hidden, there's no emissions testing of motorcycles for the MOT test in the UK (yet!) It's just a visual check at the tailpipe, so as long as your bike's not running so rich it's chuffing out clouds of black smoke (or burning oil), you'll be fine! ;)

Thanks for the feedback guys

bandola 25-09-14 08:36

Yay!

Just fitted the O2 controller and the Kev mod. Fantastic results. I also fitted DNA stage 1+2.

The smother ride is so much worth it.
Air intake sound. Oh' yeah.
Maybe this is just my imagination, but i think I've got a few extra hps on low revs.

Got the Ten 2011 with stock exhaust. Put the Kev mod at 5:30 o'clock. Good spot for me.

Alright. A question. Would an after market exhaust (single can) improve performance? Will the Kev mod/O2 controller be suitable for the DNA(1+2) + new exhaust, or do I need a Power commander?

Last but not least, Thank you Kev!!

Yes a few HP, the most gains are from the intake Will the Kev mod/O2 controller be suitable for the DNA(1+2) + new exhaust It sure will or do I need a Power commander if you got the funds for a PCV + custom map that would always be my first choice.

Last but not least, Thank you Kev!! No worries, glad you are happy with your results

zipfer 20-04-15 18:07

hi I just got the fuel mod and o2 mod today. Fitted them together with a DNA stage 2 filter. A already had snorkel removed and akra pipes. Ais is blocked. Where should the knob on the fuel mod be? I put it at -3 c from 25 c. Does that sound like right to you?
I don't have a air/fuel gauge so can't check if it's any good.

Kev 21-04-15 12:12

Feel free to download the instructions off my Ebay ad: http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/7416kevxtx/m.html?item=141644263870&ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX% 3AIT&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

zipfer 21-04-15 14:41

yes it I've downloaded it, but I figured since your modification was a little more delicate than I thought, already when it is at 5:30 o'clock it has drawn down 30 degrees celcius. just thought if there was anyone who had already tried with the same mods as me before so like the lazy man I am I just need to screw the switch right and drive on without having to do a lot of test runs. but there are no problems, another good reason to ride xt660 little moore!

Thank you kev for everything!
You have made yet another man very happy.

Lukzi 09-06-15 13:00

ok, so if I understood this right, Kevs fuel mod will reduce surging, but only a little bit, because of my ECU? (XTR660/2005/ECU-00).

Thanks for answer in advance :)

Kev 12-06-15 13:09

Have a read here below, I have listed all the ECU's, the fuel mod will help a bit with a 00 ECU but that was a problem ECU: http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=8546

Guys I am having problems with one of my PayPal accounts if anyone wants any mods please can you PM for all sales until I can get it sorted out.

Hello, I have recently made the airbox modification and cleaned my Stage 2 filter, I was out this weekend and drove about 500km and then tried to adjust my fuel mod to get the most effect.
Before airbox mod the bike ran rich if you set it at 6-7 Oclock, Now I had to adjust all the way to the stop at 10 o'clock, then I get the best low and midrange.

What makes my motor need so rich fuel mixture to go well when the description kev has done for Stage 3 air filter will only go to 8 o'clock at most

"Stage 3
air box, set mod between 6 Oclock & 8 Oclock
position."

Or is it just that the low and midrange likes rich and peak hp need it to be lean?

Kev's recommended settings are really just a guide to get you a starting point and only apply at 20C ambient air temperature. Every bike is slightly different, weather affects the way it works and things like fuel vary quite a lot from country to country. It is always best to fine tune fuelling to your bike and local conditions. If you're local average ambient temperature is much below 20C, then you will find you may need to go one or two positions higher than the guide settings for example.

thank you, i am looking in to a PCV instead. putting the kev mod on the mt-03 instead.

This may be considered a stupid question, but I have searched these forums for several hours and followed multiple links, but I still dont understand how to actually install the Kev Mod. I received the device (rotary controller with two wires coming out of it)when I purchased an 2008 XT660R last week. Both wires are the same colour (green) except one has a male terminal on the end and the other a female. The controller looks like it has been used before as it has velcro on the bottom and a "+" and "-" drawn on the top of the unit in black felt.
So despite viewing various descriptions and looking at various photos, I still have no idea where I actually plug the male and female terminals into. Am I crazy, dumb, or both? Cheers. PS the bike already has a stage 2 filter kit and snorkel removed so I am hoping this is the last piece of the performance puzzle if I can get it working :)

The male/female connectors I think are the source of the confusion. They don't exist on the mod as supplied by Kev. Each wire on the mod fits to each end of the cut black/blue wire on the AIT sensor behind the LH side cover.

Fitting instructions can be downloaded from Kev's ebay listing here.

DNA stage 1 & 2

I have installed DNA stage 1 & 2 on my XTZ. Can I run this without damage if i dont have Kevs Fuel Mod installed? '

I actually have a Kev fuel mod but not installed because it didnt come with any instructions.

Thanks!

Postarn 01-04-16 21:20

Now that I've installed the Kev mod and o2 controller what do I do with the CO settings? I've had it turned up before I installed the mods. And when I turn quickly on the throttle the bike kinda dies.

Hey there,
Ordered the fuel mod past week,it arrived yesterday, huge thumbs up Kev.
I thought its gonna be shipping for a month (to Croatia).
Installed it instantly as I got home,so far in this few kilometeres I tried the bike was acting perfect !

Thank you.

englishbandit 01-12-17 22:43

Hi kev
I am waiting for your fuel mod to turn up and when it does I will fit it. Will it matter that I have not added the 02 sensor eliminater yet or do the two mods needed adding together thanks

Kev 01-12-17 22:47

Most posted mods get to their destination within 7 to 10 days all depending on your customs & local postal deliveries, some countries like Spain & Italy, Greece are really bad & take 20 to 30 days.

NotoAgulhas 08-03-18 16:03

This is what I would like to understand as well. Do you need to bump up the C01 setting when using the fuel mod y/n?

Kev 09-03-18 10:56

Not necessary if your CO has never been touched, if you don't know set it to 10.

Oil in airbox

Hello people,

Please help me with some hints. I got installed on my xt660z from 2008 stage 1 and 2 and also Kev O2 mod. I noticed an unusual amount of oil in airbox after a trip of 700 km (435 miles) on rather hot weather. It was so much oil that it even reached the lower edge of the lateral filter. Any of you had this problem? Do you have any idea why is this happening?
Thanks.

nikroc 08-04-18 15:15

Have you/has someone accidentaly overfilled the bike with oil on a recent service?

nemesis_burebista 08-04-18 18:06

I cannot say for sure but the chances are pretty slim. Have you seen this symptom on overfilled engines? If this is the issue, I'm relieved that is not something worse. But from what I know, too much oil leads to damaged oil gaskets and o-rings.

Kev 15-04-18 13:26

What year XT660 & which model do you have?

tedmagnum 06-05-18 22:52

I have acquired a 2004 XT660R. It has horrible fuelling. It cuts out on downshifting too. I've manually increased the idle which has helped a little.

My problem is that my Dash is broken. I can't access any diagnostics menu. And there is no way I can afford to replace it.

Will the mod work for me even if I can't do the basic dashboard adjustment ?

You asked the same question in a PM to me & this was my reply.

Hi Ted

There are quite a few things that cause these 660's to surge. Unfortunetly you have the worst ECU of them all ending with -00, my adjustable fuel mod will help but wont cure the dreaded surging on a ECU ending with -00, have a look at this link to get an idea of what else needs to be looked at first:

Glad you are happy with all the mods, these 660 motors respond well to the extra air & fuel.
