more speed

Hi everyone, so glad i found this forum.
I ride a 06 XTR, it has micron pipes and dna filter on, but still i need more speed.

I had her on a track last week, and the only problem i had (besides the foot pegs grinding on the road) was the top end at about 185 km/h (that is about 115mp/h)I need to replace the chain and sprockets, so i was thinking of going 3 teeth smaller at the back. will this make a big difference?

Oh yes, and I worry about riding the xt to hard keeping up with the sports bikes.
How tough is this engines?

Thanks for reading

Welcome mate.

Send Captmoto a PM on a price for a Stage 2 DNA filter, add one of my fuel mods & you will feel a nice gain.

Or stop pretend racing on tarmac, and start doing real racing on dirt, where the power will be plenty. ;) :D

Oh and welcome!

Welcome, you have found a wonderful place!!! The 21 inch front wheel is not perfect for fast cornering and you are using an on/off road machine as a sports bike so it may never really satisfy you!!!. The motor is as strong as strong can be BUT u may be better getting a sports bike for fast stuff and use the XT as nature intended!!! Have fun, Simon

Thanks everybody

What i love about my xtr, is the versatility.
I can pretend race on tarmac and have alot of fun, then go off roading the next day and have some more fun, without changing anything.
Its light, quick, powerfull, good looking and easy to ride my 10km to work and back every day.

I dont want a sports bike at the moment, I just want to enjoy both worlds more, with a little more speed in the straights without compromising offroad ability.

For now I'm just fitting a 16 tooth front sprocket, then go from there.

Thanks again for the advice everyone http://www.xt660.com/images/icons/icon14.gif

Hi and welcome to the forum:bienvenido:

Use to have an 06 XTR and although i didnt do races/track days i used the bike all the time and on the weekends got to let it open up a bit to cough cough legal speeds mr officer:smilies0948:.

Best mods to do really are stg 2 air filter and kev fuel mod (speak with captmoto for the discounts) these will give you more torque and bit more power for not too much cost. Next is as you are doing a 16 tooth sprocket up front, allow you will think this will give you more mph it really effectively corrects the speedo. I ran this set up for about a year and did all types of riding from commuting, weekend blasts, touring, heavy right hand riding etc. If your still looking more your gonna have to start paying alot more for that last bit of power.

As for reliability when i sold my XTR last year it had 43k miles on it and i seen it there the other day on gum tree with 46k mile on it (guy who bought it hasnt used it that much and wanted to get back to off road bikes but mustnt have like it!!! cant see why not)

I wouldn't fit a 16 tooth front sprocket:119:.
