Stoic Bloke had one in his front wheel for a while - He'll be along to give you the story pretty soon I would think.

Unfortunately, they don't do a 17" version for the back.

they seem a handy job ,i guess i"m spoilt with my 1150 GS ,can"t understand why Yamaha don"t build a similar tube less set up

They do on the 1200 Super Ten.

My point was that Yamaha *do* build a similar setup (which was the question). They just don't fit it to the 660.

You may as well ask why BMW don't fit them to the 650s, but do fit them to the 1200s.

(The answer is almost certainly cost).


I looked at the Tubliss setup when I bought my DR-Z and started doing enduros. Since they're quite expensive, I figured "well I'll see how it goes with normal tubes, and if I find I'm getting a lot of punctures maybe it will be worth the investment". About 40 hours of racing at 12psi later... no punctures.

Likewise, I've done over 30,000 miles on the Tenere, probably a few thousand of that off-road, and some of it at rally pace. No punctures. I don't go below about 24psi on the Ten'.

In fact, I've had two punctures in ten years of riding. Both were screws picked up on the road. I struggle to believe that I'm abnormally lucky, so while the Tubliss setup is interesting, I'm not sure how many people are having regular enough punctures to justify it.

Also worth noting that last time I looked at the Tubliss site, they didn't recommend it for use at high speeds on tarmac.

Me too. One puncture, and to be honest, that punture would have destroyed the tublis anyway.

I wonder if you could do it yourself: 660 hub with 1200 rim. Probably the number/angle of spokes would be too different.

They did it on the Super Tenere. Ups! uberthumper was faster:)

@duibhcek: The front rim is 19" on the ST.

yep, i tried a tubeliss setup for about a year, yes they work, the only thing is they are not designed for the wider rim the tenere uses 1.85 as apposed to the 1.60 offroad standard. balance is a problem as there is a rimlock incorporated into the unit.

the main problem i found was the tubliss system only liked to seal against a new tyre and as I chop and change tyres for given circumstances, so a part worn enduro tyre not fit for racing on though fine for trail use on the tenere would be a ****** to seal and had to be constantly topped up. 100psi in the inner and 20 or so in the cavity can be a ball ache.

no tubes are more useful. if it was a tougher event moouses.
some have tried with success with sealant on the nipple ends and a tubless valve, check here http://adventuremotorcyclinghandbook...ubeless-tyres/ though i would use a auto grade silkaflex sealant

so no. the only reason i tried a tubliss is cos i won a 21'' one at a race. i would suggest the rim sealing is a better way! but not better than tubes
