Ohlins Suspension
I am going to replace my rear shock with an Ohlins, but I am a little confused about which one to get. I weigh about 105kg with boots, helmet and so on, so I thought I should get the 100-110kg version.
When I tour with the bike though, I add about 25kg of fuel and luggage, which would mean I need 130-140kg. Will the 100-110kg shock be adequate if I just increase the preload when I am touring? Thanks |
The bad news I don't have an aftermarket shock on my XT.
The good news I use aftermarket suspension on 3 other bikes,the silly thing!! the more upmarket you go the focused they become, 'The one spring does all' isn't how it works,phone the importer up(not the shop) and talk to them and see what they say. I went on a steep learning with my first aftermarket shock not realising that the spring it came with wasn't any good because I rode two,the seller didn't ask and niether did I. At my age here in the Uk I still operate in Stones and pounds thats weight not money!!,but 105Kg sounds a pretty big dude to me,so you'll need a bigger spring anyway and extra with the gear you'll be carrying an upgrade from that. The problem with just cranking the preload up,means you'll have to up the anti on both the compression and rebound and it won't take long for the whole shebang get all hot and bothered,ok for round the block but not serious distance. As I said if the retailer is a suspension outlet and not just a shop he'll know,if he doesn't talk to the importer he will. |
