buffeting on XTZ. whats the deal?

Guys I've been considering an xtz for a while having used my xtx for the last 2 years. Finally test rode the z today. Love the bike and for a short ass (5'8") even loved its height and had no probe BUT the buffeting while cruising at 70-80 could be a deal breaker for me. I think my head was right in the wash from the top of the screen shaking it the whole time. Is that normal but more importantly can it be corrected. It was that bad buying the z is on hold till I know it can be sorted.

Cheers

+1 Touratech spoiler worked for me, but...

It blew off in strong crosswinds on the A17! So next I tried an Aerotrim (strangely agian it's the KTM 990 Adventure one you need - narrower than universal one and suits the width of the XTZ screen). 45, half the price of TT spoiler, works just as well and has an element of adjustability too (bit fiddly to fit though).

Buy here... http://shop.heroblobs.co.uk/collecti...-990-adventure

In my case it helped a lot to close the gap below the headlight as much as possible.

I had one of these which worked perfectly until I broke it:

Top bit of kit..

Blocking under headlight for sure done it for me
No more head buffeting. No more blurred vision.
Good luck

That's the only solution.
I did it and no buffeting anymore.
Also tried extra spoilers and stuffing front "hole" with no success.
After sawing it as low as possible didi help.

It is easy to try without screen first, if that is OK, then start sawing.

Btw. I'm 184cm tall

jimmysimpson 30-08-12 20:32

The screen is obviously built for big boogers. I'm 6'3" and no buffeting. The wind hits my chest so if you are challenged slightly in the tall dept. cutting the screen makes a lot of sense. :icon_wink:

Graemet 12-07-16 08:33

When I bought my previous XTZ, it had a Touratech high screen fitted. This was a disaster and I experienced chronic buffeting. I replaced it with the OEM screen and the buffeting went away. I'm 6'2" (1.87m) and I put it down to simply having the head(helmet) in the wrong place or wrong height. In my case the taller screen left my head right in the burble. The helmet needs air, it just needs clean air and to be rid of that dreaded burble. I would start with a shorter screen and work up from there as suggested about (hacksaw man!)

So in your case Graemet you needed the hack saw to er..........lower your head a bit heheheheh......

wind deflector dual sport helmet .

Just fitted a
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3015583991...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT today and its like a new bike .

Fits the yamaha xtz perfect .

Dual sport helmet no problem either .Before this i had to remove the screen with dual sport helmet my head was shaking so much .
Highly recommend MT Synchrony duo helmet as a cheap dual sport helmet .

Similar set up as the MRA screens. I have one on my ZRX12.
