Fuel light

Hi all
How many miles do you get on average after the flashing fuel light comes on, if you ride like a *****. It would be interesting to see who did the most and least.

My nerves are not made for that sort of adventure so I usually fill as soon as possible after it comes on. I read somewhere that both the XT660Z and XT660ZA have over 5 liters of reserve fuel. What I would like to know is if that reserve fuel is from the light comes on, or if there is actually a fuel reserve when the main tank is empty. In my teens I used to have a moped that I had to turn a lever to use the reserve fuel. I guess it's not like that anymore?

I reckon there's about 6.5 to 7 litres when the F-Trip starts. There is no "reserve" as such, once the tank's dry its dry! I always try and aim to refill within 50 miles of hitting the F-Trip. Best I've done (or rather dared to) is 257 miles and the tank took 21 litres.

You are on the mighty Ten though... we X & R riders with std tanks have a lot less. If i get 110 miles before F-Trip I do a little dance and shout hooray! as far as pushing the 'reserve' I tend to fill up at the next opportunity once I have noticed I am running low. Biggest F-Trip milage ever for me was like 11 miles...

Just noticed this in the Ten section...

:blahblah:

I have done 100km a few times on F-trip... But will not change much more than that... Once I had a 5l fuel bladder with me and decided to run it dry to see how far it goes... It ran dry on 128km. :-) I was on a long straight country road.. So normal riding will be less than that.

The fuel gauge on the Ten is like a pretty woman, nice to look at, but it's got little practical use.

I've had the F-Trip come on under 100 miles, and over 200 ! If you ride straight and steady it's fairly happy, if you are twisty undulating roads, it's very unhappy.

In both cases though, the fuel use of the bike remains fairly constant. So I take no notice of the fuel gauge, depending where I am I will fill up somewhere between 120 and 160 miles on the trip. (if I'm just local, and know where to get fuel, then I'm happy to run 50 miles into F-Trip).

I've even seen the F-Trip come on, then if I stop and restart the bike I've half a tank..... You get more sense out of a three year old !

My XTX gets between 170 and 200 km before the F Trip comes on and I then fill up fairly quickly. I have not done more than 30 km on the F Trip.

been cover before on here, see thread : http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=17293

what i started thread with:

Well I know this has been discussed before due to the pessimistic fuel gauge.
After filling up on sunday for the ride down to Hereford (two up) I had 200 pre miles on the clock. I used it into work on monday with the reserve light flashing which I know is good for at least 50 miles but I still only get 20 odd litres in come fill up time. So this time I fill a one litre container and strapped it on the back for the trip into work yesterday. I expected to run out on the way back but still made it home! Filled up this morning with 313 miles on the clock and the tank took 23 litres so ne question answered ie it definitely is a 23 tank! 62 mpg.

That's about right Redbikejohn. I normally get about 230 miles before reserve an put around 18 litres in!............ and I don't hang about!

So about 5 litres reserve!

I recon steady riding will give about 300 miles.

If you brake hard this will make the fuel gauge go down. Easiest way to reset is to stop, turn off ignition , restart and thern you will see bars aain. Works for me!:058:
