660R engine into a tt600 belgarda frame?

has anyone ever looked at doing a conversion such as this?
the belgarda has reasonably decent suspension, brakes and styling and it should make for a tidy motard type set up.

why do it? well my xtr project is lagging on a little and my overseas situation has changed somewhat and I will have to remain in aussie a little longer. the xtr is a stat write off so fitting the donk to a currently registered bike may be a way i could blat around town on it here.

so what would be involved?
for one thing is I would have to look at fitting a radiator and some plumbimng.
the other hurdle I may have would be the engine/swingarm axle mounting. (widths, diameters, width of xtr donk rear mount etc). and the wiring wouldnt be a hassle for me.
If using the ttr tank i guess you would have to have some sort of external FI fuel pump as well...
I dont know if engineering certs would be required. I dont think so, however the cc's have risen 60cc so I dont know...

so any comments would be appreciated! cheers!

Many of the TT600 and the XT660 parts are interchangeable in terms of mountings, same oil filter, brakes and some engine parts so it's probably not as difficult as you would think.

The tank is so small though, at 10 litres (inc reserve) it's not going to go far between fill ups. and as you say, there is nowhere to stuff the FI bits, certainly no room under the tank! Could try matching up the 660 motor to the carbs off the 600 ?? dunno if it would work though, need some specialist help I would think.

The TT has a dry sump so you could re-use that, but the rad is going to be a problem, maybe look at a side mounted rad and an air scoop ??

The old five valve 660 motor bolts in but not sure about the current motor.

Other things to consider would be the oil tank and airbox and there is not alot of room on the TTR for the electricts etc.

I am pretty sure you would need an engineer cert in most states in Aus for this sort of mod.

Also what model TT600R are you looking at, 98 was the year of change (in Aus anyway).

It would be nice to have that 660 grunt in the TTR frame.
Anyway I have my TT600R on the bench at the moment so will have a look at engine mounting etc and compare it to the 660r if you like.

I bought TT600 Belgarda a couple of years ago,the narrowest escape I've ever had, most Yamaha's use common parts,ie rear discs's can cover a dozen bike's,if you check the parts list the TT is a law unto it's self,I'd had the bike a few months before I worked it out,as luck would have I managed to get rid of it,some poor sole in southern Ireland has it!!

the tank sounds like the biggest problem using the tt as its only 10L... i guess you could fit an aftermarket acerbis but they look so damned ugly! have to run an isolated fuel pump too. no problem there though.

anyone heard of fitting the xt660 donk into any other sort of bike? maybe an xt660 pre water cooled type? or even any road bike type frames?

easiest here for rego will be fitting it to the xt or tt frame though. (mines a stat writeoff so im trying to find a way around it!)...

Phil didn't you see the xt750z

Just before Easter an old super tenere (blown engine) was on eBay. it came with a spare old XTZ600. Sorry didn't book mark it.
