Welcome to the fold.

TKC80s are always a good tyre choice, I've done at least 150,000 miles on them. Decent enough offroad (there are better but it's a trade off with on road use), and they OK on tarmac in the wet. I did Senegal and back on a 1200GS Adventure on one set of tyres, so as long as you are gentle with them the mileage is OK.

I have some 'well-used' panniers (Yamaha OEM) which I will be selling shortly, need to try to remember how to get the pannier rails off the bike... I'll post details in a couple of days.

Welcome enlightened one.

I say enlightened for two reasons, firstly you have chosen a steed of such calibre, second because you have chosen the original Tenere colour, but it is a heavy cross to carry, many others didn't acquire the correct colour and hide their embarrassment and failure behind shallow quips. Do not hate them, just pity them. :icon_burnout[1]:

Now, go and have a look here -> http://www.xt660.com/forumdisplay.php?f=198

The best way to figure out what you need/want is to look at other bikes, where better than a meeting of like minded individuals ? Oh, and have some fun too!

Hi

steveD 13-04-12 09:50

Welcome, didn't know that there were many of the 'stealth' versions out there!

With your enthusiasm I'm pretty sure that you are going to have a lot of fun.

As GULGO says get yourself signed up for the meet in a few weeks time and you will be blown away at just what this bike can and will do. The many modifications will keep you busy for the next year and you'll probably stop riding your other bike. Unfortunatley this is one of the 'problems' with being a Teneheric!, it's infectious!!!!!!!

PS you do camp don't you? That's another trait of the Khaki biker, Oh as well as drinking lots of beer and talking crap! (Well I do!):110:

Just had another thought. A friend of mine is probably selling some panniers and frames for a Ten. I'll give him a call and get him to contact you.:006:

Hi. I'm in Birmingham on Sea where are you? I would be interested in how you get on with the Yam as i am seriously considering one for some global travelling
I have an F8gs which I bought for the trip but I just don't like. (BMW owners have a price on my head for airing such opinions so I have to be discreet)

A few threads to look at, but the sticky ones have the important information. 30 for a long weekends camping, and the near legendary NavXT event to get you riding the best roads the Lakes have to offer. On or off road you'll get some great riding, afterwards there is the usual drinking beer (and some 'special' beer this year.. Oops, let that slip.... ) after the beer there will be lots of talking bol lox and much murthery.
