Don't know what this is

I'm from Brazil and this is my first post, so greetings to all.

I am a happy owner of a new Z (Yam-BR just recently introduced it here), but there have been some minor problems, the paint on the tank was cracked sort of like on an old teacup, the headlight frame vibrated against said headlight cutting a deep dent into it (and making a terrible noise), rear blinker coming off, and there's also this:

This sticks out of the loom just behind the ignition coil , and i can't seem to find out what it is. I removed the coil to try to find where it might have fallen off from, but there's nothing there that might have held it...it just hangs there, pretty disturbing.

Someone suggested it might be the diagnostic tool plug, but that apparently lies elsewhere and has a different shape.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I believe that is the AIS connector = Air Induction System. An electronic device which draws the air from the exausts back into the burning chamber, deisnged to create less pollution.

Hi I have my ten in bits at the moment, yearly strip/ repair/clean/lube rebuild.
I had wondered about that parts function as well, it just appears to be a loom end as it is capped, so does not plug any where, perhaps yamaha added it for some future spec, maybe god forbid EGR. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exhaust_gas_recirculation

my advise is secure it with cable ties so it cannot rub and forget

CaptMoto, i would respectfully disagree with you, since as Stoic pointed out this connector is capped, so it couldn't have been previously connected to anything. Besides, the popping is there so the system works. Speaking of, i get a noise similar to someone hitting a waxed linoleum floor with a hard rubber sole, or to a high-pitched cough, together with the normal popping, awful to hear. Stoic, I'll do as you suggest, just secure and forget about it.Maybe it's for the ABS, who knows. Apart from these little things, I love it.

Factory alarm plug maybe?

I am not sure myself, can you unplug the connector & take some photo's for me of the inside of the connector, & detailed photo's of the colours of the wires at the connector so I can look it up on the wiring diagram?

Feck, good idea, could well be.

Kev, will do, will try anyway.

Thanks guys. I hope we can find out.

That's ok no worries, I've only ever seen the Tenner in pics. I've never had one to play with. Cheers.

From XTZ660 2008 Wiring Diagram:

12. Relay unit
13. Starting Circuit cut-off relay
14. Fuel injection system relay

That's like a compound device, assembly together (relay unit).

BTW, to my doubts overall i found solutions here.

Thank's KEV and CaptMoto.
