year of manufacture

how can you tell the year of manufacture of an XTZ.
does the frame or engine number have a code etc ?

hi, what colour is your bike? it may be enough

Posiden 02-04-12 21:50

its gloss bike, my mate is actually looking for one now but I know there a quite a few old but unregistered bikes out there (eg I know of a 2008 bike (its white so its a give away) that is on an 11 plate with very few miles on the clock. the dealer thinks its worth a bit of cash (5800 !!!) because its white.

But its still a 4 year old bike.

Mine is a 2010 bike but was only registered last month as a 2012. I got it for a very good price.

I thought there may be something in the frame number to signify its year of biuld.

hi, I have no idea as to working the age from the vin plate,

if i have a crosser in for some work I normally contact my local dealer with the number, who then checks it out before ordering parts.

so if you have a number get on the phone!, let them do the leg work.

Hi,

just check the yamaha spare parts catalogue. You can enter your VIN-Number there to find out what spare parts would fit your bike. And, as a benefit, it would tell you the year of manufacturing...

Cheers,
lamo

compliance plates

Don't European sold motorcycles have a compliance plate riveted to the frame, telling you date of manufacture and compliance standard info???

Is this another Australian thing?

I think AUZ and NZ the same there is a manufacture date tag on cars and bikes so the customer can see, even in Third world Thailand all cars have a Manufacture date.

Just checked my 2011 UK registered xt660z seems the bike was manufactured 2008 this has really Fked me off this morning as i thought i had bought a 2010/2011 bike with all the mods not some old shagger!! especially when i am riding to Thailand this summer, certainly dont want any rectifier problems or air box problems.
I thought [wrong] that this was the idea of the 17 digit vin number where the 10th digit was the year of manufacture??? obviously a load of ****e.
I feel the need to head to Pattaya for some R and R very soon

Your government's NIDIRECT website says motorcycles only need a VIN stamped in the frame and MSVA compliance plate- the EU standards for motorbikes. It says nothing about the year of manufacture to be spelled out.

I used the Yammie site to look up my bike's model year too, as the only thing that indicated the year was a stamp on the exhaust, saying 2010. My bike turned out to be a 2011, like the salesman said it was!

In the States, the motorbike manufacturers have to put the model year of the bike and all smog related equipment manufacture dates on a plate, clearly accessible for the bike to become registered at the motor vehicle departments.

it is dark but definitely says more

just looked by torch light

it says:
built by
date
compliance
vin number
serial number
some other number.

etc etc this is a job for daylight.

Help needed

Can anyone tell me accurately the difference between a 2010 bike and a 2011 bike.
Im asking becuase my friend has just purchased his '11' bike and used the link on the previous page to find its actually a '10' bike and is none to happy.

madmax 02-05-12 06:24

Comparison

http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/yam...enere_2011.php

The above website will allow you to compare specs. of the two model years, but other than color choices, I don't see any differences in the two standard models.

year of manufacture

cheers for the reply. I will have a look but I think the only mods were between 2008 to 2009 and then when they offered the ABS option.
My friend is gutted that the bike he bought was sold as an 11 bike but is a 2010. He is currently 'discussing it' with the dealer.
I think there are still a few 2010 bikes being punted out by dealers who dont tell the buyer what year the bike is. Yeah its plated as a 2012 bike but it been sat in a box without being touched for 2 or 3 years.
